Liang Houying's *Ji Yan Fang* records: In autumn, select old yellow eggplants, in any quantity, place them in a new bottle and bury it in the soil. After one year, they transform into water. Take it out for use.
It treats severe wind-heat phlegm (Severe Wind-Heat Phlegm), capable of resolving phlegm into fluid. Mix eggplant water with powdered *Sophorae Radicis Cortex* (Kushen) to make pills, sized like *Staphylea* seeds. Take thirty pills after meals and before bed, delivered with yellow wine.
*Qiu Quan Mi Lu* records a method for making plum water: Take thirty to fifty large plums, crush them, put them in a bottle with a spout, add three taels of salt, and pour river water over them to a depth of two fingers. Add slugs daily; the more, the better. It is even better if left for a year. Apply this water to any poison, and it will dissipate immediately.
It treats various poisons and malignant sores.
Liang Houying's *Ji Yan Liang Fang* records: In spring, collect several jin of fresh cherries, store them in a porcelain bottle, seal it, and place it in a cool spot. Allow it to ferment into water, then filter out the dregs.
It is miraculous for treating chilblains. Apply the water to the sores, and they will heal. If applied to the face in advance, chilblains will not occur.
When rashes fail to erupt, it is called "stifled rash" (Men Zhen). Drink one cup of cherry water, slightly warmed. Those on the verge of death will recover. This is an excellent prescription that requires no medicine.
Any substance with physical form can be distilled into dew (Lu). Dew is the essence of matter. This method originated in the Atlantic region and was introduced to China. For large-scale production, steamers (Zeng) are used; for small-scale, kettles are used, both suitable for distillation. The dew obtained is the vapor and water of the distilled material. Although materials vary in color, the extracted dew is invariably white; it is distinguished by odor, not color. Many contemporary physicians use medicinal dew, valuing its clear and crisp qi, which can unblock the spiritual mansion (Xin/Heart), unlike decoctions which tend to be cloying and obstruct the intestines and diaphragm. There are many varieties. Below are listed several common ones used daily with known therapeutic indications; others await further research to complete the record.
*Jinyin Lu* (Honeysuckle Dew): Distilled from flowers of *Lonicera japonica* (Ren Dong Teng Hua). Flowers distilled fresh have a stronger fragrance than those dried. Its qi is fragrant and sweet, capable of opening the stomach and widening the middle jiao, resolving toxicity and clearing fire. In summer, it can replace tea. Feeding it to children prevents sores and toxins, and it is especially effective in dispersing summer heat. Jin Canran's medical notes state: *Jinyin Lu* specifically treats fetal toxin, as well as various sores, acne toxins, and heat toxins. *Guang He Tie* states: It clears fire and resolves toxicity, and can also make acne spots sparse.
*Bohé Lu* (Mint Dew): Distilled from fresh mint. Its qi is strong and taste pungent. It cools the diaphragm and induces sweating. It is not suitable for people with deficiency to take in large amounts. Jin Shi's medical notes state: It clears heat and resolves toxicity, disperses wind-cold.
*Méiguī Lu* (Rose Dew): Distilled from rose flowers. Its qi is fragrant and taste bland. It harmonizes blood, calms the liver, nourishes the stomach, widens the chest and disperses depression. Taken with wine. Jin Shi's medical notes state: Specifically... [Text incomplete in source]
*Foshou Lu* (Buddha's Hand Dew): Distilled from *Citrus medica* var. *sarcodactylis* (Foshou Gan). Its qi is fragrant and taste bland. It regulates qi in the diaphragm. Jin Shi's medical notes state: Specifically treats qi obstruction in the diaphragm, resolves depression, and greatly widens the chest.
*Xiangyuan Lu* (Citron Dew): Distilled from citron. Its qi is fragrant and taste bland. It resolves phlegm and removes stagnation. It has the same function as *Jinjucheng Lu* (Kumquat and Orange Dew).
*Guihua Lu* (Osmanthus Dew): Distilled from osmanthus flowers. Its qi is fragrant and taste slightly bitter. It brightens the eyes and soothes the liver, stops bad breath. Jin Shi's medical notes state: Specifically treats swollen gums and toothache, dry mouth and throat... [Text incomplete in source]
*Moli Lu* (Jasmine Dew): Distilled from jasmine flowers. Its qi is fragrant and taste bland. Its qi rises to penetrate the crown and descends to the lower abdomen, resolving all stale qi in the chest. However, it can only... [Text incomplete in source]
*Qiangwei Lu* (Rose/Rosa rugosa Dew): Originates from Da Shi (Arabia), Zhancheng (Champa), Java, Huihui (Muslim regions). Foreign name Alaji. Sprayed on clothes, its fragrance does not fade for years. It treats heart diseases, and... [Text incomplete in source] diaphragmatic qi stagnation. Another type of domestic Qiangwei Dew is distilled from native Rosa rugosa flowers. It specifically treats warming the interior and reaching the exterior, dispersing wind pathogens.
*Lanhua Lu* (Orchid Dew): Distilled from Jianlan flowers. Its qi is thin and taste bland. Eating it brightens the eyes and soothes depression.
*Ji Lu* (Chicken Dew): *Dao Ting Ji* states: Chicken Dew greatly tonifies primordial qi, with effects similar to *Renshen* (Ginseng). Use female chickens for men, male chickens for women. Chickens within one year old are called "Tongzi Ji" (Boy Chickens) and can be used. Two-year-old chickens have tough meat and withered quality, unsuitable for distilling dew. For medicinal use, select Tongzi Ji. Strangle it with a rope, cut open the belly with a bamboo knife, wash away feathers and abdominal filth with mellow wine, avoiding water contact. Distill and drink the dew. It is clear in qi, white in color, looking oily. Taste is sweet. It resolves phlegm, benefits blood, assists the spleen in generating strength, generates fluids, brightens eyes, and is a divine medicine for treating five deficiencies and consumptive disorders.
*Mi Lu* (Rice Dew): Distill fresh white rice, do not use aged rice. The dew is white and clear, resembling lotus. It greatly tonifies spleen and stomach deficiency, generates lung metal divinely.
*Jiang Lu* (Ginger Dew): Dispels cold, resolves frost and fog toxins, drives away miasma, aids digestion and resolves phlegm.
*Jiao Lu* (Pepper Dew): Distilled from fresh pepper. It brightens the eyes, opens the appetite, promotes digestion and strengthens the spleen.
*Dingxiang Lu* (Clove Dew): Qi is strong, taste slightly pungent. Treats cold-type stomach pain.
*Mei Lu* (Plum Dew): Distilled from freshly picked green-calyx plum blossoms at initial bloom. It resolves congenital fetal toxin. For infants under six months who have not yet had chickenpox, consuming it mixed with *Jinyin Lu* is excellent.
Zhou Liyuan's *Min Xiao Ji* records: People in Haicheng distill plum and Qiangwei dew using a method similar to liquor production. One pot of wine yields a few drops that are highly fragrant.
*Gupi Lu* (Ground Bark Dew): Distilled from *Lycii Cortex* (Digupi). Resolves muscle heat and bone-steaming fever (Jin Tie), and all types of deficient fire (Xu Tie).
*Huoxiang Lu* (Patchouli Dew): Clears summerheat and rectifies qi.
