[Ji Jie] Li Shizhen said: King Jie of the Xia Dynasty was the first to fire mud bricks into tiles.
[Qi Wei (Flavor and Nature)] Sweet, cold, non-toxic.
[Zhu Zhi (Indications)] Boil in water and drink the decoction to treat Xiao Ke (Wasting-Thirst Syndrome); tiles from old roofs are particularly effective (from *Tang Bencao*). Decoct and take orally to resolve excessive heat in the heart (Zhen Quan). Stop urinary frequency by taking the decoction (Da Ming). Grind into powder and apply topically to burns and scalds (Zang Qi). Treat traumatic injuries and set broken bones (Li Shizhen).
[Fu Fang (Attached Prescriptions)] One old prescription, six new prescriptions.
Summer Heat Month: Take tiles from both sides of a dead house's roof, heat them, and apply hot compresses to the chest area; replace immediately when they cool down. (*Qian Jin Fang*)
Traumatic Injuries to Bones and Tendons: Secretly Transmitted Divine Efficacy Powder: Treats injuries from falls and impacts, including bone fractures, comminuted fractures, tendon ruptures, and unbearable pain. This medicine is extremely effective in managing trauma and knitting broken bones, with repeated use yielding consistent results. Take one piece of fragmented tile found at the foot of a wall on a path, where people frequently urinate and defecate. Wash it clean, calcine it over fire, and quench it five times in rice vinegar until it turns yellow. Scrape it finely into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, mixed with good wine. For conditions located above, take before meals; for conditions below, take after meals. Do not despise it because it is cheap and common; it is truly a divine prescription. (Experience Prescription of True Man Shao Yizheng)
Burns and Scalds: Grind the ridge-end ornaments (roof beasts) from an old roof into powder, mix with oil, and apply topically for immediate effect. (*Rumen Shi Qin Fang*)
Moxibustion for Toothache: Take a triangular tile that is earthen-bottomed, ancient, and moist. Have three boys surnamed differently point to the first star appearing at dusk, then perform moxibustion on the tile. (*Ben Cao Shi Yi*)
Sores on Lips and Mouth: Grind new tiles into powder, mix with raw sesame oil, and apply. (*Ji Xuan Fang*)
Raised Keloids: Frequently apply hot tiles as a compress. (*Qian Jin Fang*)
Bee or Wasp Stings: Rub the affected area with a tile, spit on it twenty-one times, and place the tile back in its original position. (*Qian Jin Fang*)
(From *Ben Cao Shi Yi*)
[Zhu Zhi (Indications)] Treat hiccups and rebellious qi by boiling in water and drinking the juice. For those suffering from chronic white dysentery due to deficiency-cold, or who feel cold in the lower abdomen during autumn, heat the brick, wrap it in cloth, and sit on it to allow the heat to enter the abdomen; this is beneficial. It also treats women's leukorrhea of five colors. Make seven pancakes using flour, place them on a red-hot yellow brick, spread Huang Gua Lou (Trichosanthes Fruit) on top, cover with two layers of cloth, and have the patient sit on it so that the medicinal vapor fumigates the abdomen. Worms resembling silkworm eggs should be expelled; recovery occurs within three to five treatments (Zang Qi).
[Fu Fang (Attached Prescriptions)] Three new prescriptions.
Cold-Dampness Hong Kong Foot (Podagra/Cruralgia): Red-heat a brick, quench it in aged, foul-smelling rice washing water. While hot, wrap three bricks in cloth, clamp them between the knees, and cover with a cotton quilt. Cure achieved in three to five applications. (*Fu Shou Fang*)
Red, Swollen, and Painful Eyes: Soak a new brick in a cesspool for a long time, remove it, and place it in a shady spot. When efflorescence forms, brush it off, add Borneolum Syntheticum (Ice Piece), and instill into the eyes. (*Pu Ji Fang*)
Damp Sores on the Buttocks: Sit on a new brick daily to dispel dampness. (*Ji Xuan Fang*)
