[NAMES] Zhuyuan Sui (Bamboo Garden Coriander).
Li Shizhen stated: Its color is yellow like fine sand. It is called "Sea" to describe its miraculous and extraordinary nature. The common name "Zhuyuan Sui" is derived from its leaf shape resembling that of garden coriander (*Coriandrum sativum*).
[COLLECTED COMMENTARIES] Yuxi stated: It grows in Qianzhong Commandery, and also in Hunan. It grows as small clumps, one to two chi high. In July, the whole plant is harvested, dried in the sun until slightly dry, placed on paper to catch it, and beaten with a stick. Fine sand falls onto the paper; this process of drying and beating continues until all the sand has fallen out.
Li Shizhen stated: It is found in Jiangzhe, Huxiang, Sichuan, and Shaanxi, growing under forests. The stem is thin as a thread, climbing on bamboo and wood, about one chi high. The leaves are thin like those of garden coriander but much thinner, green on both sides, with many wrinkles on the upper surface. Sand is present in the wrinkles, resembling powder of *Cattleya* pollen (Puhuang), yellowish-red in color. It does not flower; the fine roots are tough. Both the sand and the herb can be used as medicine. Alchemists collect this herb to extract juice for smelting minerals and alchemical processes.
