[Names] Huarui Shi (Flower Stamen Stone).
Su Song stated: The yellow stone has pale white spots in the middle, which is how it got the name "flower". Tu Jing Ben Cao writes it as "Huarui Shi", taking its yellow color as the basis.
[Collection and Explanation] Yuxi stated: Hua Ru Shi (Flower Milk Stone) is produced in Shanzhou, Huazhou, and other commanderies. Its color is pure yellow, and its shape, size, roundness, or squareness has no fixed standard.
Su Song stated: It is produced in Wenxiang, Shanzhou. The body is extremely hard and heavy, the color resembles sulfur, and the lumps can be very large. People in Shaanxi carve them into utensils for use, and there is no fixed time for collection.
Li Shizhen stated: Yu Ce records: Hua Ru Shi is a Yin stone. It grows in the valleys of Daizhou, comes in five colors, and can substitute for cinnabar in pill preparation. It is also found in Wenshan and Pengxian in Shu.
[Processing] Li Shizhen stated: Whenever used in pills or powders, seal it in a jar with clay, roast over fire at the top to remove fire toxicity, grind into fine powder, process by water levigation, dry in the sun, and use.
[Odor and Flavor] Sour, astringent, neutral in nature, non-toxic.
[Indications] Bleeding from metal wounds; scraping the powder and applying it to the wound causes immediate healing without suppuration. Also treats women's blood syncope and evil blood (from Jia You Ben Cao).
Treats all types of hemorrhage and injury, internal leakage, and corneal opacity (Li Shizhen).
[Elucidation] Su Song stated: There were no ancient formulas using Huarui Shi. In recent times, it is mixed with sulfur and ground into powder to apply to metal wounds, with miraculous effects. For those suddenly injured by blades who cannot suture immediately, simply scraping the powder and applying it is also effective.
Li Shizhen stated: Huarui Shi had no recorded odor or flavor previously. I have tried it now; its odor is neutral, and its taste is astringent and sour. It seems to lack properties entering the Yin meridians and blood aspect. Its function specializes in stopping bleeding, transforming blood into liquid, using acidity to astringe. Furthermore, it can expel dead fetus and placenta, removing evil blood; once the evil blood is transformed, there are no obstructions for the fetus and placenta. Dongyuan stated that for retained placenta, astringent agents can induce expulsion; thus, Chishizhi (Red Halloysite) can also expel the placenta, sharing the same principle. Ge Kejiu treated hematemesis of one dou or sheng using Huarui San; Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang treats various hemorrhages, metal wounds, and obstetric conditions with Huarui San, both claiming it transforms blood into water. Thus, the efficacy of this stone surpasses ordinary herbs.
[Attached Formulas] Five new formulas.
Huarui San: Treats rupture and damage of the five zang organs, spitting blood in dou and sheng quantities. Use this formula. Calcine Huarui Shi until it retains its nature, grind into powder.
Take one cup of urine from an uncircumcised boy; for males, add half wine; for females, add half vinegar. Warm and decoct, take two qian after meals, five qian for severe cases. It transforms stasis into yellow water, followed by supplementation with Dushen Tang (Ginseng Decoction) (Ge Kejiu, Shi Yao Shen Shu).
Huarui San: Treats all metal blade and arrowhead injuries, as well as contusions and crush injuries, dog bites leading to apparent death. Immediately sprinkle medicine on the wound; the blood turns into yellow water. Sprinkle again, and the patient revives without pain. If internal injury causes blood to enter the viscera, decoct boy's urine with a little wine, warm and take one qian orally for immediate effect.
For injuries from animal horns where intestines protrude but are not damaged, immediately reduce them, suture with mulberry root bark thread, sprinkle medicine, stop bleeding, and revive immediately. For postpartum women with incomplete expulsion of lochia, blood syncope, evil blood rushing to the heart, dead fetus in utero, retained placenta, even if clinically dead, provided the heart area remains warm. Immediately take one qian mixed with boy's urine to expel evil matter resembling pig liver, preventing lifelong blood wind and blood qi disorders. If blood accumulates above the diaphragm, it transforms into yellow water, vomited out immediately or discharged via urine, highly effective.
Sulfur 4 liang, Huarui Shi 1 liang. Mix into coarse powder, seal with clay paste, dry. Place in a tile jar, seal with mud, bake dry. Set on a square brick inscribed with Eight Trigrams and Five Elements characters. Surround with one picul of charcoal, ignite from below starting at Si/Wu hours, calcine until charcoal is consumed and cooled. Grind into fine powder, store in bottle (Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang).
Metal wound bleeding: See indications section.
Chronic corneal opacity: Huarui Shi (water levigated and baked), Fangfeng, Chuanxiong, Gan Juhua, Baifuzi, Niubangzi each 1 liang, Zhi Gancao 0.5 liang. Grind into powder. Take half qian per dose, washed down with winter tea (Wei Sheng Jia Bao Fang).
Oozing between toes: Good Huangdan (Lead Oxide), mix with Huarui Shi powder, sprinkle (Tan Ye Weng, Shi Xiao Fang).
