[Copper Ore] (Pronounced "Gu Meng", also written as " ". Source: *Tang Bencao*)
[Names] Li Shizhen stated: "Kuang" refers to coarse and inferior substances. The Five Metals (Gold, Silver, Copper, Iron, Tin) are all accompanied by coarse stones, hence the name. Coarse grains of wheat are called KT; vicious dogs are also called Kuang.
[Collection and Explanation] Su Gong stated: Copper ore resembles ginger stone but contains copper stars; it is smelted to extract copper. It is found in mountains where copper exists. Xu Shen in *Shuowen Jiezi* said: "Kuang" is the raw stone containing copper and iron.
[Flavor and Properties] Sour, cold, slightly toxic.
[Indications] Carbuncles, swellings, and malignant sores: grind into powder and apply externally. Sores on the back of donkeys or horses, and foul-smitting armpits: grind into juice and apply topically (*Tang Bencao*).
[Copper Green] (Source: Song Dynasty *Jiayou Bencao*)
[Names] Tong Lü (Copper Green).
[Collection and Explanation] Chen Zangqi stated: Both raw and refined copper develop a green patina, which is the essence of copper. The larger pieces are Kong Qing (Azurite), and the smaller ones are also classified under Kong Qing. Tong Qing (Copper Green) refers to the green substance formed on copper vessels, used after washing and filtering.
Li Shizhen stated: In recent times, people use vinegar to treat copper to generate green patina, collect it, and dry it for use.
[Flavor and Properties] Sour, neutral, slightly toxic.
[Indications] Blood and Qi pain in women; combined with other treatments to stop bleeding from metal wounds; brightens the eyes; removes red polyps on the skin (Chen Zangqi). Treats wind-induced ulcerating eyes with tearing (Zhi Cai).
Treats malignant sores, childhood malnutrition sores (Gan Chuang); expels wind-phlegm; kills parasites (Li Shizhen).
[Elucidation] Li Shizhen stated: Tong Qing is formed by the condensation of liquid qi from copper. It is sour and slightly toxic, entering the Liver and Gallbladder meridians. Therefore, it expels wind-phlegm, brightens the eyes, and treats Gan disorders, all of which are diseases of the Liver and Gallbladder. *Baopuzi* states: Applying Tong Qing to wood prevents rotting when submerged in water.
