(Yin "You". From *Bencao Gangmu* [Compendium of Materia Medica])
[Names] Huangshu Yelang (Yellow Weasel Wild Wolf) [from *Bencao Gangmu*], Tu (pronounced "Sheng", departing tone), Qu (pronounced "Gu"), Dihou (Earth Monkey).
Li Shizhen states: According to *Guangya*, the Shuwulang is the You (Mustela sibirica, Siberian weasel). In the Jiangdong region, it is called Tu. Its color is yellowish-red like a pomelo, hence the name Tu. This creature is adept at catching mice and poultry/livestock, and can also subdue venomous snakes. What Zhuangzi referred to as "a thoroughbred horse is not as good as a cat in catching mice" refers to this animal.
[Analysis] Li Shizhen states: The You is found everywhere. It resembles a mouse but has a longer body and larger tail; its color is yellow with red hues, and its odor is extremely musky and foul. What Xu Shen described as resembling a marten but larger, with yellow and red coloring, is this animal. Its fur and tail can be used to make brushes; they do not break even in severe winter cold. These are what the world calls "mouse-hair brushes" and "chestnut-tail brushes."
[Meat]
[Properties and Flavors] Sweet, foul-smelling, warm in nature, slightly toxic.
[Indications] When rendered into oil and applied to sores and scabies, it kills parasites (Li Shizhen).
[Heart and Liver]

[Indications] Epigastric and abdominal pain, kills parasites (Li Shizhen).
[Attached Prescriptions] New Prescription 1.
Epigastric and Abdominal Pain: Take one set of the heart, liver, and lungs of a yellow weasel. Dry them in the shade, then roast on a tile until dry and grind into powder. Add three fen of powdered Rush Xiang (Boswellia Carterii Resin), Mo Yao (Myrrha), Hai'er Cha (Camellia sinensis var. assamica tea for children), and Xue Jie (Dragon's Blood). Take one qian per dose, mixed with distilled liquor (Baijiu). The pain will stop immediately. (From *Haishang Xianfang* [Immortal Formulas from the Sea])
(From *Bencao Shiyi* [Supplement to Materia Medica])
[Names] Gankou Shu (Sweet-Mouth Mouse).
Li Shizhen states: Xi is the smallest type of mouse. Its bite causes no pain, hence the name "Sweet-Mouth Mouse." It is found everywhere today.
[Analysis] Chen Zangqi states: The Xi shu is extremely tiny and difficult to see suddenly. It eats the skin of humans, cattle, and horses, causing ulcers, which go unnoticed until death. *Erya* mentions its stinging toxicity; the reference in *Zuo Zhuan* to "biting the horns of sacrificial oxen" refers to this creature. *Bowuzhi* states that eating human cadaverous skin causes malignant ulcers; *Yishu* states that consuming food damaged by mice in the first lunar month often leads to Shu Lou (scrofula/lymphatic tuberculosis) with bleeding from small pores. The treatment method involves massaging with marten paste and eating marten meat, which is considered excellent. Since the Xi shu has no medicinal utility and poses a harm to humans, it is recorded here.
