[Fushen]
The Qi is neutral. The flavor is sweet. It is non-toxic. It primarily dispels inauspiciousness, treats dizziness and deficiency caused by wind pathogenic factors, relieves dry mouth due to five types of exhaustion (Wu Lao), stops palpitations, excessive anger, and forgetfulness.
It opens the heart orifice, enhances intelligence, calms the soul and spirit, and nourishes the spirit.
Fushen has neutral Qi, inheriting the autumnal neutral Metal Qi, entering the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian. Its sweet flavor and non-toxic nature derive from the central Earth flavor of the earth, entering the Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian.
With neutral and harmonious Qi, it descends while containing ascending properties, belonging to Yin. Fushen’s sweet flavor and neutral Qi possess central and correct qualities, harmonizing the Spleen and Lung, occupying the position of Heaven and Earth in the body, thus capable of dispelling inauspiciousness. All wind diseases belong to Liver Wood; when Wood is deficient, wind moves causing dizziness. Its sweet flavor and slow nature can benefit Liver injuries; its neutral Qi clears Metal, thereby settling Wind Wood. "Five exhaustions" refer to the spiritual damage of the five Zang organs. When the spirits of the five Zang are damaged, Yin fire flares up causing dry mouth. Fushen is sweet and neutral, calming the Spirit, thus stopping dry mouth. Palpitations, irritability, and forgetfulness are symptoms of Heart-Kidney non-interaction and restless Liver Wood. Fushen’s neutral Qi benefits Lung Qi; as Lung Qi descends, Heart Fire also descends to interact. Its sweet flavor benefits Spleen Qi; as Spleen Qi ascends, Kidney Water also ascends to interact. Generally, when Heaven and Earth positions are settled, Water and Fire are peaceful; when Earth and Metal are substantial, Wind Wood is stabilized. This is the way of mutual restriction among the Five Elements. The effects of opening the heart orifice and enhancing intelligence are all due to the benefit of Lung Qi via neutral Qi. When the Lung is benefited, water passages flow freely and Heart Fire is controlled, so the Heart Spirit becomes open and bright. When the Lung is benefited, Metal generates Kidney Water, so skills emerge and intelligence increases. The Liver is the dwelling of the Hun (Ethereal Soul), and the Lung is the abode of the Po (Corporeal Soul). Fushen’s neutral Qi benefits the Lung; when the Lung is tranquil, the Liver is harmonious, thus calming the Hun and Po. Jing (Essence) is the splendor of Yin, and Shen (Spirit) is the spirituality of Yang. Fushen’s sweet flavor benefits the Spleen; when the Spleen is harmonious, food and drink are ingested, and the Spirit is nourished.
Prescription:
Fushen combined with Chenxiang (Aquilaria Wood) forms a pill named Zhuque Wan (Vermilion Bird Pill). It treats vague mental state. Pulverized into fine powder, taken with Mugwort decoction. It treats sweating at the heart orifice, and seminal emission with white turbidity due to Heart deficiency.
[Songhua - Pine Pollen]
The Qi is warm. The flavor is sweet. It is non-toxic. It primarily moistens the Heart and Lungs, tonifies Qi, eliminates wind, stops bleeding, and can also be used for brewing wine.
Songhua has warm Qi, inheriting the spring mild Wood Qi, entering the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. Its sweet flavor and non-toxic nature derive from the central Earth flavor of the earth, entering the Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian.
Both Qi and flavor are ascending, belonging to Yang. Its ability to moisten the Heart and Lungs works because after food enters the Stomach, Spleen Qi scatters essence and transports it to the Heart and Lungs. Songhua’s sweet flavor benefits the Spleen, and its warm Qi promotes movement. The Spleen transmits fluids for the Stomach to the Heart and Lungs, thus moistening them. Tonifying Qi refers to the warm Qi benefiting Liver Yang Qi, and the sweet flavor benefiting Spleen Yin Qi. Wind Qi communicates with the Liver; warm Qi disperses Liver Qi, thus eliminating wind. The Spleen controls blood; sweet flavor harmonizes the Spleen, thus stopping bleeding. It can be brewed into wine because of its clear fragrance and strong aroma, which suits wine.
Prescription:
Songhua combined with Shanyao (Dioscorea Rhizome), Baishao (White Peony Root), Gancao (Licorice Root), and Fuling (Poria) treats diarrhea.
Combined with Hongqu (Red Yeast Rice), Shanyao, Beiwei (Schisandra Berry), Rousongrong (Cistanche Stem), Baishao, and Duzhong (Eucommia Bark). It treats Kidney diarrhea.
Specifically soaked in wine. It treats vertigo and brain swelling.
