[Form and Origin] The shape resembles a wooden wedge. It has eight legs and a long tail. The body is segmented and greenish-black in color. Those with long tails are called *Chai* (scorpion larvae), while those with short tails are called *Xie* (scorpions). Those produced in Qingzhou are of the best quality. When a scorpion stings a person, apply mud water to the wound. Alternatively, draw a cross on the ground, take the soil from the intersection, and ingest five fen mixed with water. If the sting is on the hands or feet, soak the affected area in cold water, changing it as soon as it becomes slightly warm. If the sting is on the body, apply a cloth soaked in water to the area. All these methods are effective. (Recorded by Tao Hongjing)
[Flavor, Temperature, and Meridian Tropism] Flavor: salty, sweet, pungent. Temperature: neutral. Enters the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. The head first tastes salty and sweet, then pungent and sweet; the pungency has no distinction of superiority or inferiority. The tail first tastes salty and sweet, then pungent, and also bitter.
[Dissertation] Scorpions are green in color and mostly produced in the East, endowing them with the specific qi of Wind-Wood. Their sweet flavor does not outweigh the pungent flavor; their neutral nature also manifests as pungent. This is the action of Wind-Wood qi, which can disperse [pathogens], assist in tonifying Spleen Earth to achieve efficacy, and transform qi within Metal qi. The following text mentions Metal qi guiding it, i.e., ...
[Processing] Those that are tight and small are preferred. Some use the whole scorpion, some use only the tail. The tail's medicinal power is particularly potent. This is likely because most of the scorpion's medicinal flavors reside in the tail, and it carries a bitter taste, combining with...
The character for "Ban" should be written as "Mao". Because there are green-black spots on its elytra, it is commonly known as "Ban Mao" (Blister Beetle). It is as large as a croton seed. In August and September, it feeds on the juice of soybean leaves.
Aroma and Flavor: pungent and cold. Possesses great toxicity. Mainly treats scrofula (*Luoli*), breaks urinary calculi (*Shilong*), and addresses blood hernia (*Xueshan*) and genital sores (*Biandu*). Extracts carbuncle toxin, treats rabid dog bites. Formulary books treat distension and fullness due to blood stasis, flaccidity, and nodules that wander.
[Dissertation] Blister beetles are mostly used for external treatment. Internal use is limited to breaking urinary calculi and driving out blood accumulation. Generally, they can break Yin knots and directly溃散 (disperse/ulcerate) the toxins accumulated therein.
Its nature is highly toxic and can ulcerate human muscles. Even if preserved in its original state (Cunxing), it can still gnaw at the intestines and stomach, causing blistering, ulceration, and death. For cases of scrofula or rabid dog bites...
[Preparation] Harvest when beans are lush in July and August, dry in the shade. Remove wings and legs. Place in glutinous rice and stir-fry until the rice turns yellow. Raw usage causes vomiting and diarrhea.
