[General Discussion] The chicken belongs to Earth in the Five Elements, yet it possesses characteristics of Metal, Wood, and Fire. Its nature is tonifying. Furthermore, it corresponds to the Xun trigram (representing Wind), and can assist Liver Fire and the fire within dampness. (According to Zhu Danxi) Observing its feathers, one sees that it primarily inherits the dominance of Wood Qi. (From this, its nature can be inferred.) It is acceptable if the Wood Qi does not become weakened due to the lack of restriction by Metal. With Wood as the primary element.
Black Female Chicken Meat
Taste: Sweet, Sour. Temperature: Neutral. Black corresponds to Water; female symbolizes Yin. It mainly treats diseases of the Blood level.
Attached Prescription: Treats chronic deficiency in both men and women, or deficiency and debility following severe illness, characterized by heaviness, fatigue, soreness, shortness of breath, panting, night sweats, lower abdominal tension or cramping, palpitations, and weak stomach function.
Yellow Female Chicken Meat
Taste: Sweet, Sour, Salty. Temperature: Neutral.
Attached Prescription: For Xiao Ke (Wasting and Thirsting syndrome) with frequent urination, boil yellow female chicken meat to make a decoction, drink it when cooled, and also consume the meat as soup. For Spleen deficiency leading to loose stools and dysentery, roast one yellow female chicken, add a small amount of salt.
[Discussion] The Chicken inherits Wood and Fire Qi more strongly. When consumed medicinally, black or yellow female chickens should be selected, as Earth and Water provide its form, while its Qi returns to Earth and Water.
Black-Bone Chicken Meat
The chicken's tongue is black, meaning both flesh and bone are black, which makes it superior for medicinal use.
Taste: Sweet. Temperature: Neutral. Tonifies deficiency and emaciation. Treats various diseases in women such as metrorrhagia (Beng Dai), leukorrhea, and deficiency syndromes. (Both cooling tonification and warming circulation can serve as main therapeutic approaches.)
[Discussion] Although the Chicken belongs to Wood, its bones are black, representing a transformation from Xun to Kan. It exclusively gathers the essence of Water and Wood. Therefore, for diseases of the Liver and Kidney blood levels, such as Yin deficiency with fever, postpartum consumptive disease, metrorrhagia, and leukorrhea...
[Processing Method] Use female chickens for male patients and male chickens for female patients. Boil until tender and mix with herbs, or grind together with the bones.
Chicken Comb Blood
Three-year-old roosters are good; those from red-combed roosters are even more precious.
Taste: Salty. Temperature: Neutral. Treats wind-heat in the meridians. Applied to the cheeks to treat facial paralysis caused by wind invading the vessels (mouth and eye deviation). Red-combed rooster blood treats vitiligo. Take with hot wine.
Mr. Miao states: Chicken comb blood is warm in nature. For epidemic pox cases presenting with deficiency-cold, it can help promote the eruption of pustules. However, if the condition is due to blood heat causing dryness and blackening, misuse will worsen the condition.
Gizzard (Ji Zhen) and Inner Golden Membrane of Gizzard (Ji Nei Jin)
(Male patients use female chickens; female patients use male chickens.)
Taste: Sweet. Temperature: Neutral. Mainly treats diarrhea and dysentery, frequent urination and enuresis, dribbling urine, and stops leukorrhea. Ji Nei Jin also treats Xiao Dan (wasting-thirst or goiter-like conditions).
[Discussion] The gizzard is essentially the spleen of the chicken, responsible for digesting water and grain, analogous to the human spleen organ. (The Spleen belongs to Taiyin, and the Kidney belongs to Zhinyin; diseases of these two organs often influence each other leading to...) As for...
