The aforementioned single ingredient: Make a small hole in an egg, insert one bean of Croton (Ba Dou) into the eggshell, seal it with paper, wrap it in wet paper, and roast it thoroughly over fire. Remove the shell and the bean, consume only the egg entirely, and the disease will cease. Do not allow any anger during this period; for persons with deficiency constitution, divide into two doses. (From *Shengji Zonglu*)
Treating diseases such as intestinal wind (Chang Feng) and internal toxin (Zang Du) causing hematochezia.
Wenzhou Aurantium Fructus (Zhi Qiao) (any quantity):
Scrape off the pulp from each piece individually, insert one peeled bean of Croton (Ba Dou), tie the two halves together securely with thread. Boil in rice vinegar in a silver or earthenware vessel until the Zhi Qiao is soft and rotten. Wash clean, remove the Ba Dou, chop the Zhi Qiao, dry-roast, and grind into powder. Form pills with vinegar paste, sized like mung beans. Take thirty pills per dose, swallowed with clear aged tea on an empty stomach. Discontinue when cured. This may also be used for dysentery; in early stages, retaining a small amount of Ba Dou is acceptable. (From *Zengpin Yijian Fang*, *Danliao Fang*)
A widely circulated empirical prescription for hematochezia: Use Frankincense (Ru Xiang), Myrrh (Mo Yao), Dragon's Blood (Xue Jie), and Child's Breath (Er Cha), each 1 qian, and Croton Frost (Ba Dou Shuang), 5 fen. Form pills sized like mung beans. Take on an empty stomach with wine. The efficacy is miraculous and indescribable. (From *Shiyi De Xiao Fang* [Liu Yao])
**Prescriptions to Stop Bleeding**: For large intestine wind causing persistent hematochezia, abdominal pain, and gradual emaciation, this prescription is suitable.
Areca Palm Bark (Zong Lu Pi) (2 liang, burnt to ash) Mugwort Leaf (Ai Ye) (2 liang, burnt to ash) Egg (3 pieces, fried until charred):
Grind all ingredients into powder. Before meals, take 1 qian mixed with congee water. (From *Taiping Shenghui Fang*)
For chronic intestinal wind hematochezia, anal swelling and pain, and physical emaciation, this prescription is suitable.
Snake Yellow (She Huang) (one large piece) Strong Vinegar (Yan Cu) (5 he):
Heat the She Huang over charcoal until red hot, then immerse it in vinegar. Repeat the heating and immersing process until the vinegar is exhausted. Pound and grind finely into a powder. Before meals, take half a qian mixed with congee water. (Ibid.)
**Heisheng San**: Treats intestinal wind, internal toxin, hemorrhoids, and various types of lower bleeding.
Angelica Sinensis Root (Dang Gui) Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuan Xiong) Poria (Fu Ling) Sanguisorba Officinalis Root (Di Yu) Sophora Flower (Huai Hua) (roasted) Decayed Palm (Bai Zong) Mugwort Leaf (Ai Ye) (burnt to retain nature) Carbonized Herb Powder (Baicao Shuang):
Grind equal parts into fine powder. Take 2 qian before meals, mixed with old rice water. (From *Zhizhi Fang*)
**Zhenren Yangzang Tang**: Add raw Sophora Flower (Huai Hua). Treats intestinal wind and lower bleeding due to cold-heat imbalance. (Ibid.)
Chen Yanzhi suffered from intestinal wind hematochezia for nearly thirty years. His body was robust and fat; although blood was lost intermittently, new blood grew rapidly, causing no harm. Last winter, he suddenly experienced massive hematochezia, shooting out like an arrow, causing the anus to prolapse by three to five cun. He had more than twenty bowel movements in a day and night, suffering unspeakably. His face was swollen, complexion dull and lusterless, lips cracked and mouth dry, with black coal-like discoloration around the nostrils. I administered Cinnabar Red Stone (Chishi Zhi) powder mixed in Ginseng Decoction (Renshen Tang), after which he felt slightly relieved. Subsequently, I formed pills using Ginseng (Renshen), Atractodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu), Chishi Zhi, and Halloysitum Rubrum (Yuyuliang). He took these and was completely cured. (From *Yuyi Cao*, excerpted)
**Prescriptions to Benefit Qi**: Prescription for Intestinal Wind.
Cyperus Rotundus Rhizome (Xiang Fu) (1 liang, processed) Aurantium Fructus (Zhi Qiao) (3 fen) Angelica Sinensis Root (Dang Gui) Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuan Xiong) (each 0.5 liang) Sophora Flower (Huai Hua) (fried) Licorice Root (Gan Cao) (roasted, each 1 fen):
Make into coarse powder. Take 3 qian per dose, decoct with 1.5 cups of fresh water, ginger, and jujube. Take before meals. (From *Zhizhi Fang*)
**Processed Cyperus Prescription**: Treats various types of lower bleeding.
Large Cyperus Rotundus Rhizome (Xiang Fu) (pound to remove hairs and skin, soak in urine of a young boy for one day and night, sun-dry, cut into pieces, dip in rice vinegar, and dry-roast):
Grind into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with rice soup. To treat cold leukorrhea, mix with decoction of fried mugwort leaf. (Ibid.)
**Jiangxiang San**: Has extraordinary effects in stopping bleeding. Suitable for intestinal wind or internal toxin causing persistent lower bleeding. However, if the intestines and organs are weak, do not use it. Using only cooling herbs to attack will inevitably lead to spleen deficiency and massive bleeding. Be cautious.
Dried Ginger (Gan Jiang) Cyperus Rotundus Rhizome (Xiang Fu Zi) Mume Fruit (Wu Mei) (each burnt to retain nature) Lindera Root (Wu Yao):
Equal parts, ground into fine powder. Mix with Mume Fruit decoction to take at any time. (From *Wei Shi Jia Cang Fang*)
**Chenxiang Tang**: Especially suitable for persons with spleen deficiency after blood loss.
Cyperus Rotundus Rhizome (Xiang Fu Zi) (remove hairs, 3 liang) White Poria (Bai Fu Ling) (remove skin) Amomum Fruit (Suo Sha Ren) Licorice Root (Gan Cao) (roasted and chopped, each 1.5 liang) Agarwood (Chen Xiang) (2 qian, avoid direct fire):
Grind into fine powder. Take with salt water. If decocted, add ginger and jujube. (Ibid.)
**Pingwei Prescriptions**: In treating disease, one must ask about medication; medication must suit the disease. Someone suffered from hematochezia for fifteen years, likely due to excessive worry damaging the heart and excessive alcohol consumption. They tried all medicines; sometimes it stopped temporarily but recurred, sometimes multiple prescriptions failed. Recently, someone advised taking Pingwei San, obtained from Wang Jixian, the State Physician of Shaoxing, who specialized in thickening the intestines with Magnolia Bark (Hou Po). It seems laughable to expect a fifteen-year illness to be cured by such a simple formula. However, taking one cup daily causes no harm. Although it may not eradicate the root, it shows near-term efficacy. Seeking broadly is futile labor; the way is near, yet we seek far away. This is what is meant. (From *Qingbo Biezhi*) (Note: *Xu Yishuo* cites *Qingbo Zazhi*, stating "someone taught taking Renshen Pingwei San," taken daily for over a month, curing the fifteen-year illness. This was likely a modification, but Renshen Pingwei San is indeed excellent, so *Guanju Fang* included it.)
Student Tang suffered from diarrhea with purple-black blood stools more than ten times a day due to drinking milk products and eating raw food, resulting in spleen and stomach invasion by cold-dampness toxins. I gave him Liushen Pingwei San (to be verified) 0.5 liang, plus Atractodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu) 3 qian, to promote blood circulation in the waist and umbilicus. One dose cured him. (From *Yinzheng Lueli*)
Yang suffered from bloody diarrhea due to drinking cold wine. Taking Duijin San stopped it (which is Weiling San). This also reflects the principle of regulating the middle jiao, separating yin and yang, and stabilizing the blood vessels. (From *Bencao Gangmu* citing *Haizang*)
For intestinal wind hematochezia, decoct Pingwei San with Drynaria Rhizome (Xuduan). Another method: add forty-nine wheat grains, removing Xuduan. (From *Lishang Xuduan Fang*)
**Prescriptions to Warm Middle and Tonify Deficiency**: Jiaojiang Lizhong Tang treats abdominal deficiency and hematochezia.
Take Lizhong Tang, add Astragalus Membranaceus Root (Huang Qi), Donkey-hide Gelatin (Ejiao), Mugwort Leaf (Ai Ye), and Angelica Sinensis Root (Dang Gui). Decoct and take before meals. (From *Wei Shi Jia Cang Fang*)
For persons with yang deficiency and yin insufficiency, suffering from intermittent hematochezia for many years, with a yellowish-brown complexion resembling Phellodendron bark, take Lizhong Tang added with Aconite Root (Fuzi) and Carbonized Herb Powder (Baicao Shuang), form into pills and take. (From *Danxi Xinfa*)
**Li Wu Tang**: Combines Lizhong Tang and Siwu Tang. (From *Zhengzhi Leifang*)
**Aifu Tang**: Treats hematochezia caused by cold in the zang organs.
Large Aconite Root (Fuzi) (2 liang, processed, peel and navel removed, sliced) Prepared White Mugwort (Shu Bai Ai) (1 liang) Sichuan Ginger (Chuan Jiang) (7 qian, processed and washed):
Cut into pieces. Take 3 qian per dose, add 1.5 cups of water, decoct to 0.7 portion, remove dregs, and take warm before meals. (From *Wei Shi Jia Cang Fang*)
**Guifu Tang**.
Angelica Sinensis Root (Dang Gui) (0.5 liang, remove rhizome) Aconite Root (Fuzi) (1 liang, processed, peel and navel removed):
Cut into pieces. Take 3 qian per dose, add 1.5 cups of water and five slices of fresh ginger, decoct to 0.7 portion, remove dregs, and take warm before meals. (Ibid.)
**Mendong Tang** for treating severe deficiency from lower bleeding.
Ophiopogon Tuber (Maidong) Atractodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu) (each 4 liang) Licorice Root (Gan Cao) (1 liang) Oyster Shell (Muli) Rehmannia Root (Shaoyao) Donkey-hide Gelatin (Ejiao) (each 3 liang) Jujube (Dazao) (20 pieces):
Cut the seven ingredients. Add eight sheng of water, boil to obtain two sheng. Divide into two doses. (From *Qianjin Fang*)
**Renshen San**: Treats intestinal wind and internal toxin. Transferred by Sun Shaoyuan, Transport Commissioner. He stated that those with this condition should take it regularly to prevent fatigue and sallow complexion. Taking more is better. Repeatedly transmitted to others, all considered it excellent.
Ginseng Root (Renshen) White Poria (Bai Fu Ling) Astragalus Membranaceus Root (Huang Qi) (honey-roasted) Licorice Root (Gan Cao) Schisandra Berry (Wuweizi):
Equal parts, ground into fine powder. Take two large qian per dose, mixed with plain boiled water. Take four or five times daily. (From *Shizheng Fang*) (Note: This formula originates from *Sanyin Fang*, treating lower bleeding from five types of hemorrhoids, based on modified Sijunzi Tang. Here, Baizhu and White Hyacinth Bean are removed, and Wuweizi is added.)
For excessive blood loss leading to sallow complexion, use Shiquan Dabu Tang removing Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi) as the main prescription. (From *Yuanbing Ji*)
Xue Yun, Commissioner of Communications, suffered from lower bleeding. After taking Rhinoceros Horn Dihuang Tang and other medications, the bleeding increased, body emaciated, fever developed, appetite decreased, and there was tenesmus. This was sinking of spleen qi. I used Buzhong Yiqi Tang added with Processed Ginger (Pao Jiang). One dose cured him. (From *Neike Yaosha*)
A person who habitually drank alcohol occasionally passed blood in stool, either before or after defecation, with poor appetite, fatigue, and sallow complexion. This was spleen qi deficiency failing to control blood. I used Yiqi Tang added with Evodia Fruit (Wuzhuyu) and Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian). (From *Shoushi Baoyuan*)
**Duanhong Wan**: Treats yang deficiency of zang-fu, chronic intestinal wind and hemorrhoidal diseases with persistent lower bleeding, or excessive blood loss, leading to sallow complexion and gradual emaciation.
Platycladus Seed (Bai Zhi Ye) (lightly fried until yellow) Drynaria Rhizome (Xuduan) (soaked in wine) Deer Antler (Lu Rong) (scraped of hair, boiled in vinegar) Aconite Root (Fuzi) (processed, peel and navel removed) Astragalus Membranaceus Root (Huang Qi) (remove rhizome) Donkey-hide Gelatin (Ejiao) (chopped, stir-fried with clam powder into beads) Angelica Sinensis Root (Dang Gui) (remove rhizome, soaked in wine, each 1 liang) Alum (Bai Fan) (calcined, 0.5 liang):
Grind into fine powder. Make pills with vinegar-boiled rice paste, sized like paulownia seeds. Take seventy pills per dose, on an empty stomach before meals, with rice water. (From *Jisheng Fang*)
For elderly persons with deficient yang qi, unable to retain blood, with leakage from the large intestine, Deer Antler Pill (Lurong Wan) is suitable.
Deer Antler (Lu Rong) (7 liang) Prepared Rehmannia Root (Shu Dihuang) (10 liang) Aconite Root (Fuzi) (40 pieces) Achyranthes Root (Niuxi) (20 liang) Chinese Yam (Shanyao) (4 jin) Eucommia Bark (Duzhong) (3.5 jin) Schisandra Berry (Wuweizi) (2 jin) Cistanche Stem (Rou Congrong) (3 jin):
Form pills with refined honey, coat with musk. Take with salt water or salt wine. (From *Ruyi Fang*)
**Lower bleeding due to kidney deficiency**.
Deer Antler (Lu Rong) (prepared with butter) Mume Fruit (Wu Mei) (remove pits, each 1 liang) Psoralea Fruit (Po Gu Zhi) (fried) Eucommia Bark (Duzhong) (each 0.5 liang):
Stir-fry and grind into powder. Form pills with millet porridge. Take thirty pills per dose, swallowed with salt water on an empty stomach. (From *Danliao Fang*)
**Regulation Method**: For blood disorders, if one does not abstain from alcohol, sexual activity, and rich flavors, even if bleeding stops temporarily, it will recur and eventually become a stubborn disease. (From *Shiyi De Xiao Fang* [Liu Yao])
