Formulas for Resolving Fluid Retention
Wendan Tang (Warm the Gallbladder Decoction) is used to treat deficiency and timidity of the Heart and Gallbladder, where one is easily startled by events, experiences ominous dreams, or is confused by strange visions. This leads to a frightened heart and gallbladder, Qi stagnation generating phlegm-fluids, and the struggle between phlegm-fluids and Qi, which transforms into various syndromes. Symptoms include shortness of breath, palpitations, and fatigue; recurrent spontaneous sweating; edema of the four limbs; loss of taste in food; empty feeling with vexation in the chest; and restlessness in sitting or lying down.
Ingredients: Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, washed seven times with boiling water), Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, stir-fried with bran, pith removed, 2 liang each), Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum, 3 liang, white pith removed), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried, 1 liang), Baifuling (Poria Cocos, 1.5 liang).

Case Report on Shifting Spirit (Yi Jing) Treatment
The wife of Wei Dexin was lodging in an upper floor during travel. At night, robbers raided and burned the house. She was startled and fell from the bed. Since then, whenever she heard a noise, she would faint from fright.
Her family members walked on tiptoes, daring not to make any sound. After more than a year without recovery, physicians treated it as a Heart disease using Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Zhenzhu (Margarita), and Dingzhi Wan (Stabilize Mind Pill), all to no avail.
Zhang Congzheng (courtesy name Dairen) examined her and diagnosed: "Fright (Jing) is Yang, entering from outside; Fear (Kong) is Yin, arising from within. Fright occurs due to unknown causes, while fear arises from known causes." [Note: *Yi Xue Gang Mu* cites this saying: Generally, Jing is startled by hearing noises; Kong involves self-awareness, like being hunted, unable to sit or lie alone, requiring companionship to avoid fear, or needing lights at night, fearing even without light.]
The Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian belongs to Liver Wood. The Gallbladder governs courage; fright injures the Gallbladder. He ordered two maids to hold her hands, place her on a high chair, and set a small table in front of her face. Zhang said, "Lady, look at this." He suddenly struck the table with wood. The woman was greatly startled. Zhang said, "I only struck the table with wood, why be alarmed?" Waiting until she calmed slightly, he struck again. Her startle response had eased. After a moment, he struck three or five times consecutively, then struck doors with a staff, and secretly had someone scratch behind the window. Gradually, her fright subsided, and she laughed, asking, "What treatment is this?" Zhang replied, "*Nei Jing* states 'Treat fright with Ping (calm/ordinary).' Ping means ordinary. If one sees common things regularly, there will be no fright." That night, he had people strike her doors and windows from dusk till dawn. Fright causes the Spirit (Shen) to ascend and escape. Striking from below makes her look down, thereby gathering the Shen. Within one or two days, even thunder did not startle her. (From *Rumen Shiqin · Shi Xing San Liao*)
