Shengdi Huang Tang (Rehmannia Decoction): Didang Tang (Ephedra and Asarum Pill) and Didang Wan are difficult to use nowadays; this formula serves as a substitute and feels very mild.
Sheng Di (2-3 qian) Gan Qi (1 qian, stir-fried until smoke ceases) Sheng Ou Zhi (1 small cup; if unavailable, replace with Da Ji 1-2 qian)
Lan Ye (1.5 qian) Da Huang (1-2 qian, raw or cooked as appropriate) Tao Ren (1 qian, peeled and crushed) Gui Wei (2 qian, washed in wine)
Hong Hua (6 fen, washed in wine)
Decoct with water and Ou Zhi. The original formula uses Shui Zhi (Leech) and Meng Chong (Dragonfly Larva), now replaced by Gui Wei and Hong Hua. Blood stasis (Xue Yu) varies by upper, middle, and lower jiao: for pain in the upper jiao chest that cannot be touched, Xijiao Dihuang Tang is used; for pain in the middle epigastrium that cannot be touched, Tao Ren Chengqi Tang is used; for pain in the lower abdomen below the navel that cannot be touched, Didang Tang is considered too harsh, so this decoction is indicated. One may additionally add Zhi Shi and Su Mu at the practitioner's discretion.
Hei Gao (Black Plaster): Treats macules caused by epidemic toxins, resembling brocade patterns.
Sheng Di (2 liang) Dan Dou Chi (3 liang)
Decoct with half a jin of lard until the liquid is thick, then add Xiong Huang powder (5 fen) and She Xiang (6 fen). Roll into pills the size of a bullet. Dissolve one pill in plain warm water and take. If ineffective, take another dose.

Grind into fine powder. Take 1-3 qian each time. Mix with fresh well water and boiling water before ingestion.
Prescription for Red Macules: Crush the root of Du Jiao Wu, take with wine. Very effective.

For Critical Macules: Chan Chu (Toad), remove intestines. Skin and head should be removed as they may contain toxic secretion. Crush raw and eat 1-2 toads. Effective. If ineffective, include skin and head when crushing and taking.
