When Stomach Fire (Stomach Heat) is blazing, manifesting as irritability, thirst with excessive drinking, rotting of the gums, or bleeding from receding gums (Ya Xuan), along with a red face and fever, Yuye Decoction (Jade Fluid Decoction) is the primary formula.
Yuye Decoction (Self-made Formula)
Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 5 qian)
Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, 5 qian)
Shihu (Dendrobii Caulis, 3 qian)
Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 2 qian)
Yuzhu (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma, 4 qian)
Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix, 2 qian)
Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, 1 qian)
Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba, 1 qian)
Baimaogen (Imperatae Rhizoma, 8 qian)
Zhugan Zhi (Sugarcane Juice, half cup, taken by mixing in)
Compared to Weizao Yushi Qingwei Tang (Stomach Dryness Jade-Stone Clearing Stomach Decoction), this formula also utilizes Shigao, Yuzhu, Shengdi, Maidong, Shihu, and Zhugan Zhi, but excludes Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), and Fuling (Poria). This is because the intensity of the Fire exceeds that of simple dryness. Huafen (Trichosanthis Radix) and Gafen (Concha Meretricis et Cyclinae) are not incapable of clearing and transforming Phlegm-Heat; however, they are removed and replaced with Gegen, Jiegeng, Bohe, and Baimaogen because the Stomach Fire has penetrated into the Blood level (Xue Fen). Therefore, it is appropriate to raise Yang and scatter Fire, while simultaneously clearing the Blood level. Comparing this formula with Yushi Qingwei Tang, the latter focuses on clearing and moistening, whereas this one focuses on clearing and dispersing. Observing the shifting emphasis between Yuzhu and Shigao reveals the therapeutic intent. Annotated by Zuyi.
Fire from the Heart Channel (Heart Jing) transferring to the Small Intestine results in dysuria with turbid urine, or painful and difficult urination. Hupo Daochi Tang (Amber Guiding Red Decoction) is the primary formula.
Hupo Daochi Tang (Self-made Formula)
Hupo (Electrum, 1 qian)
Tiandong (Asparagi Radix, 1.5 qian)
Danpi (Moutan Cortex, 2 qian)
Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, 5 qian)
Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 1.5 qian)
Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, 1 qian)
Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra, 1 qian)
Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 2 qian)
Gancao Shao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, tip portion, 0.5 qian)
Dan Zhuye (Lophatheri Herba, 10 leaves)
Dengxin (Sparganii Rhizoma, 3 chi)
This formula retains all components of Daochi San (Guiding Red Powder)—Shengdi, Mutong, Gancao Shao, and Dan Zhuye—and adds Hupo, Tiandong, Maidong, Danshen, Danpi, Chishao, and Dengxin. It aims to clear Fire from both the Heart and Small Intestine while attending to Lung Metal and Kidney Water, ensuring that as Fire dissipates, Body Fluids (Jin Ye) increase. Hupo is used as the chief herb not only because it clears Fire and Damp-Heat from the Heart and Small Intestine, but also because it excels at resolving toxicity, making it a supreme remedy for dysuria and turbid urine.
