Yang Sitian suffered a dislocation of the hip joint (alternatively described as the acetabulum), with persistent pain at the affected site. Medication had been ineffective. The liver pulse was surging and rapid. I stated: "This is pain caused by excessive Liver Fire." I prescribed Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) with added Gardenia Fruit (Zhizi, 栀子) and Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian, 黄连). After two doses, the pain ceased. Subsequently, Si Wu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) with Gardenia Fruit, Phellodendron Bark (Huangbai, 黄柏), and Anemarrhena Rhizome (Zhimu, 知母) were used for regulation, leading to recovery.
A woman fell and injured her arm, resulting in bleeding, bone pain, fever, thirst, restlessness, chest oppression, and dizziness. These symptoms worsened in the late afternoon. This presented as a syndrome of Yin deficiency with internal heat. I treated her with Ba Zhen Tang (Eight Treasure Decoction) supplemented with Moutan Cortex (Danpi, 牡丹皮), Ophiopogon Tuber (Maidong, 麦冬), Schisandra Fruit (Wuweizi, 五味子), Drynaria Rhizome (Gusuibu, 骨碎补), and Cinnamon Twig (Rougui, 肉桂), along with Di Huang Wan (Rehmannia Pill). All symptoms resolved. Later, Cinnamon Twig was removed, and Achyranthes Root (Niuxi, 牛膝) and Teasel Root (Xuduan, 续断) were added. After more than twenty doses, the wound healed.
(Two cases)
A young boy injured his foot, causing pain without any change in skin color, indicating bone injury. I frequently applied hot compresses of stir-fried scallions to the area. At dawn (5-7 AM), he took He Xue Ding Tong Wan (Blood-Nourishing and Pain-Relieving Pill). During the day, he received formulas to strengthen the Spleen and Stomach and generate Qi and Blood. After several days, he took Di Huang Wan (Rehmannia Pill). He recovered after more than three months.
Another young boy suffered a dislocated arm bone which was reduced, but swelling, pain, and fever ensued. His condition worsened after taking Qi-moving medicines, and he lost his appetite. I applied hot scallion compresses, which immediately stopped the pain. I then treated him with Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction), Astragalus Root (Huangqi, 黄芪), Bupleurum Root (Chaihu, 柴胡), Platycodon Root (Jiegeng, 桔梗), Teasel Root (Xuduan, 续断), and Drynaria Rhizome (Gusuibu, 骨碎补). His appetite improved, and swelling and pain subsided. Subsequently, Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) with Ophiopogon Tuber (Maidong, 麦冬) and Schisandra Fruit (Wuweizi, 五味子) was administered. As Qi and Blood harmonized, the fever receded, and he recovered.
Dai Jishi fell from a horse, resulting in leg swelling, pain, and dark discoloration, accompanied by poor appetite and fatigue. This was due to deficient Yuan Qi (Original Qi), which failed to transform and disperse blood stasis. I prescribed Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction), removing Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 升麻) and Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix, 柴胡), and adding Akebia Caulis (Mu Gua, 木瓜 - *Note: Mu Gua usually refers to Chaenomeles fruit, here likely referring to the herb commonly known as Papaya/Chaenomeles*), Poria (Fuling, 茯苓), White Peony Root (Shaoyao, 芍药), and Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu, 白术). He recovered after treatment.
Liu Wuqing, Shaozongbo, sustained an injury with mild pain and poor appetite. I prescribed Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) with doubled doses of Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui, 当归) and Astragalus Root (Huangqi, 黄芪). His pain gradually ceased. Over a month later, the blood stasis dried up internally, but the wound did not ulcerate/heal. He believed he was cured. I stated: "This is extreme Yang Qi deficiency; it requires tonification and regulation." He did not comply. In the following spring, he experienced dizziness and phlegm-fluid retention obstructing the orifices. After taking Qing Qi Hua Tan Wan (Clear Qi and Transform Phlegm Pill), his condition worsened. His pulse was surging yet faint and thin. I intended to treat him with tonics such as Ginseng Root (Renshen, 人参), Astragalus Root (Huangqi, 黄芪), Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui, 当归), Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu, 白术), and Aconite Lateral Root (Fuzi, 附子). He did not believe in this approach. In early autumn, he fainted and collapsed due to anger.
