Jingming bone refers to the orbital bones surrounding the eye socket. The upper part is called the brow ridge bone (Meileng gu), and the lower part is the zygomatic bone (Quan gu), which connects inferiorly to the upper alveolar process. In cases of contusion injury with blood flowing over the face, apply Daochuang Ointment (Dao Chuang Yao); for swelling, pain, and blood stasis, apply Hunyuan Ointment (Hunyuan Gao). If a fracture occurs, administer Bali Powder (Bali San) internally, and avoid raw, cold foods and "fa" substances (foods that may exacerbate disease). Occasional consumption of pork head meat will inevitably trigger an exacerbation, requiring up to one month for full recovery. Any injury to the eyelids where the pupil remains intact is treatable.
Daochuang Ointment (Dao Chuang Yao): Treats all injuries caused by metal blades; topical application stops bleeding, promotes wound closure, relieves pain, and protects against wind pathogens.
Ingredients: White Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao, 1 jin / 500g), purified Pinus Massoniana Rosin (Ban Songxiang, water-extracted, 1 jin / 500g), Pearl (Zhenzhu, boiled in tofu, 5 qian / 18.75g).
Preparation: Grind the three ingredients into fine powder, mix thoroughly, and store in a porcelain jar for future use.
Hunyuan Ointment (Hunyuan Gao) and Bali Powder (Bali San) are detailed in the section on "Injury to the Vertex."
The bilateral zygomatic bones are the prominent large bones on either side of the face. Contusion injuries result in cyanosis, swelling, hardness, and pain, along with trismus (lockjaw), difficulty chewing, epistaxis (nosebleed), and eversion of the lips. Administer Zhenggu Zijin Dan (Zhenggu Zijin Pill) internally, fumigate and wash the area externally with Haitongpi Decoction (Haitongpi Tang), rinse the mouth with Biba Powder (Biba San), and sit or lie in a place away from cold.
Haitongpi Decoction (Haitongpi Tang): Specifically used for washing various contusion injuries and persistent pain due to tendon and bone misalignment.
Ingredients: Cortex Phellodendri Amurensis (Haitongpi), Herba Centellae Asiaticae (Tieqian Tougucao), Resina Burserae Mimosae (Ruxiang), Resina Commiphorae Myrrhae (Moyao) (each 2 qian / 7.5g), Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui, wine-washed, 1.5 qian / 5.6g), Fructus Zanthoxyli (Chuanjiao, 3 qian / 11.25g), Rhizoma Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong, 1 qian / 3.75g), Flos Carthami Tinctorii (Honghua, 1 qian / 3.75g), Radix Saposhnikoviae (Weilingxian), Radix Angelicae Dahuricae (Baizhi), Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis (Gancao), Radix Saposhnikoviae (Fangfeng) (each 8 fen / 3g).
Preparation: Coarsely crush the ingredients, place in a white cloth bag, tie securely, and decoct in water. Use the steam for fumigation and the liquid for washing the affected area.
Biba Powder (Biba San):
Ingredients: Fructus Piperis Longi (Biba), Rhizoma Alpiniae Officinarum (Liangjiang), Radix Asari (Xixin) (each 1 qian / 3.75g).
Usage: Decoct 3 sheng (approx. 600ml) of water to 1 sheng (approx. 200ml), and use for mouth rinsing.
Zhenggu Zijin Dan (Zhenggu Zijin Pill) is detailed in the section on "Injury to the Temporal Regions."
The bony structure between the nostrils is named the nasal bridge bone (Biliang gu); extending downward to the tip of the nose is the juncture point known as Zhuntou. Injuries causing depression of the two nostrils are treatable, and epistaxis is not a contraindication. If the nasal bridge bone is depressed, apply Danggui Ointment (Danggui Gao). If the nostrils are ruptured due to contusion or laceration by sharp instruments, apply Fengkou Medicine (Fengkou Yao) to the wound, and externally apply Xiaodu Tingtong San (Xiaodu Tingtong Powder) to reduce swelling. If the nose is avulsed, use the Suture Method (Zhui Fa).
Fengkou Medicine (Fengkou Yao): Highly effective for treating contusion injuries with torn skin and flesh, as well as lacerations causing severed throat, detached ears, missing lips, ruptured bellies, or broken scrotal skin.
Ingredients: Resina Burserae Mimosae (Ruxiang), Resina Commiphorae Myrrhae (Moyao), Camellia Leaf (Ercha), Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui), Carbonized Pini Massoniani Lignum (Shanpitan) (each 1 qian / 3.75g), Moschus (Shexiang, 5 li / 1.875g), Borneolum Syntheticum (Pian Nao, 1 fen / 0.375g), Cerumen Suillae (Zhu Lingye) (if unavailable, use leaves of Ipomoea batatas or Solanum lyratum, 1 qian / 3.75g).
Preparation: Grind each ingredient separately into fine powder, weigh and mix uniformly. Add Moschus and grind finely, then add Borneolum Syntheticum and grind evenly. Store in a porcelain jar for use.
Xiaodu Tingtong San (Xiaodu Tingtong Powder): Treats swelling, induration, and pain resulting from falls and contusions.
Ingredients: Hematitum (Wumingyi, stir-fried), Auricularia Judae (Mu'er, stir-fried), Radix et Rhizoma Rhei (Chuan Dahuang) (each 5 qian / 18.75g).
Preparation: Grind into powder, mix with honey water, and apply topically. If blood stasis is present, use Bian stone therapy to drain the stasis before applying; if tissue is necrotic, applying Danggui Ointment (Danggui Gao) is particularly beneficial.
Shenxiao Danggui Gao (Miraculous Angelica Ointment): This ointment promotes wound closure and tissue regeneration, draws out toxins, relieves pain, and treats conditions where toxin-heat is congested and pus forms due to necrosis.
Ingredients: Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui), Cera Flava (Huangla) (each 1 liang / 37.5g), Sesame Oil (Mayou, 4 liang / 150g).
Preparation: Fry the Radix Angelicae Sinensis in the oil until charred black, filter out the dregs, then add the Cera Flava, stirring rapidly until melted. Cool and store in porcelain containers. Apply using old silk cloth. An alternative formula uses Cera Alba (White Beeswax).
Suture Method (Zhui Fa) (Same method applies to detached ears): Place human hair in a Yangcheng crucible, seal with salt mud, calcine into ash, and grind into powder. Immediately dip the injured ear or nose into the powder, reposition it to its original location, and secure firmly with soft bandages for effective results. Historically, Chan Master Jiang Huai had his nose bitten off by a donkey; a monk successfully reattached it using this method.
