Answer:
Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) and Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) benefit the Qi of Metal (Lung). When Metal Qi is strong, Wood (Liver) naturally becomes balanced. Ningshuishi (Talcum) and Yaxiao (Natrii Sulfas), when heated in fire, transform into Damp-Heat. Damp-Heat is the climate command of late summer; what else could it be but Earth? Therefore, Zhusha (Cinnabaris) is used to sink the Fire downward. This is like the retiring ruler handing over the authority of the Damp command to the Zi position (North/Kidney). Thus, the Wiry pulse is eliminated, and Earth naturally prospers. In autumn, if wheezing occurs, Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Zhusha are added. In summer, Qi-nourishing herbs are not added; instead, Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum) is added. To induce sweating, drink one cup of white rice porridge before going to bed, then take the medicine, which will cause sweating.
Alternating chills and fever, listless spirit, scanty or irregular urination, undigested food in stool, dry mouth with retracted tongue, sores on lips and corners of the mouth, epigastric fullness/stuffiness, extreme thirst with desire to drink, aversion to dryness and preference for dampness, blurred vision, weakness in four limbs, lethargy and desire to lie down, inability to eat, dry and rough skin, dark complexion, emaciation, tightness in chest and abdomen, sweating on the forehead. This method aims to drain Fire, benefit Dampness, and tonify Qi. Whether the pulse is Wiry, Floating, or Deep, the same treatment applies. If Qi fails to transform leading to difficult urination, the muscles are moist and smooth. If Heat steams Yin deficiency leading to Qi failure, and Qi flows causing spontaneous free urination, the dry and rough muscles indicate forced fluids failing to stay. (Lizhu Dan) is the main prescription.
A Wiry-Rapid pulse indicates Yang sinking internally, moving from exterior to interior. A Wiry pulse accompanied by Rapid suggests Jia ending at Jia (cycle completion). A Tight pulse accompanied by Surging suggests Ren ending at Bing.
If the pulse is Wiry and Deficient, there is no Fire. If the pulse is Fine, there is no Water. These two pulses represent pathology moving from interior to exterior, and Lizhu Dan is not suitable.
[Diagram Explanation]
Diarrhea relates to Ren Blood [Note: Textual anomaly], Earth (Fire command reverses direction causing Earth deficiency; Earth deficiency means late summer qi does not arrive. *Nan Jing* states: Tonify the mother when deficient. *Jing* states: Nourish the source of transformation).
Wood (following Fire's momentum, attacks Spleen Earth, insults Lung Metal; should drain Fire within Metal).
Insulting the invincible (Wiry pulse bullies Metal).
Tonifying Earth is also tonifying Metal. (Right Cun pulse shows Wiry-Rapid, indicating East Wood coming with Fire momentum to insult Metal. Should solidify Metal by leveraging the child's momentum. Having drained Fire, Wood has no master and retreats naturally; Fire and Wood become deficient. Use cold herbs to drain Fire. This is "Excess drains its child." Draining Fire is tonifying North Water).
