(Cinnamon Twig Decoction's) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma); Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), and Danshi (Sojae Preparata) are all included. Taken hot with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus), and fine tea. (This is the method of using cold medicine for heat conditions.) It can disperse the excessive heat in the exterior, interior, and Sanjiao (Triple Burner). (Shigao [Gypsum Fibrosum] half tael, Huangqin 7 qian, Huanglian 7 qian, Huangbai 7 qian, Zhizi 30 fruits, Mahuang 2 he, Danshi 2 he; each dose is 1 liang, decocted with 3 slices of ginger, 2 dates, and a pinch of tea, taken hot. Treats severe heat in the exterior, interior, and Sanjiao, delirium, mania, macules, epistaxis, jaundice of the body and eyes. Huangqin clears heat from the Upper Jiao, Huanglian clears heat from the Middle Jiao, Huangbai clears heat from the Lower Jiao, Zhizi unblocks and clears heat from the Sanjiao to clear the interior, Mahuang and Danshi disperse cold and induce sweating to resolve the exterior, Shigao is heavy in nature and clears heat from the Lung and Stomach, while being light in aroma and also resolving the muscle layer.)
(Zhang Zhongjing's formula), four ingredients including Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) treat the Yangming disease. (Treats Taiyang disease Guizhi Tang syndrome where the physician mistakenly used purgation, causing pathogenic factors to enter the Yangming stage, accompanied by fever and diarrhea, with a rapid pulse, wheezing, and sweating. Gegen [Puerariae Lobatae Radix] 8 liang, Zhi Gancao [Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma] 2 liang, Huangqin 2 liang, Huanglian 3 liang.) It resolves the exterior, clears the interior, harmonizes the Stomach, and ensures peace and health as wheezing, sweating, and spontaneous diarrhea subside.
(Cheng Wuji said: When pathogens are in the interior, yin pulses should be seen; a cu [rapid and intermittent] pulse indicates excess yang, knowing that the exterior pathogen has not yet resolved. Diseases presenting with sweating and wheezing indicate severe external pathogens; now, wheezing with sweating indicates rebellious Qi due to internal heat. This formula disperses exterior pathogens and clears internal heat. A pulse that is rapid and occasionally stops is called cu; Gegen is used specifically to govern the exterior of the Yangming channel.)
(In Chen Zimou's *Xiaozhu Ju Fang* [Yuanrong]), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) is added; Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) are suitable. Gange (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Gancao, Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and Fuling (Poria) make this formula recommended for internal injury and external contraction. [Renshen [Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma], Zisu [Perillae Folium], Qianhu, Banxia (processed with ginger), Gange, Fuling each 7.5 qian; Chenpi, Zhike (stir-fried with bran), Jiegeng, Muxiang, Gancao each 2 qian; each dose is 2 qian, decocted with ginger and dates. Treats external contraction and internal injury, fever, headache, vomiting, cough, phlegm, dizziness, and wind-diarrhea. For severe external contraction, remove dates and add Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus). Zisu, Gange, and Qianhu resolve the exterior; Renshen, Huangqin, and Gancao tonify the middle; Chenpi and Muxiang promote Qi circulation and break stagnation; Banxia, Zhike, and Jiegeng benefit the diaphragm and dispel phlegm.] If Renshen and Qianhu are removed and Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) and Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) are added, the formula is named Xiongsu Yin (Szechwan Lovage and Perilla Drink), suitable for those who cannot take Ginseng. Xiangsu Yin (from *Ju Fang*) uses only Chenpi and Gancao, and is also applicable for internal and external pathogenic injuries. [Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) (stir-fried), Zisu each 2 qian, Chenpi (
