(Decoction Powder) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Wuyao (Tso-ngao's Lindera Root), Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum), along with Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Suye (Perillae Folium), and Renshen (Ginseng Radix). Combined with Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), and Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), it treats facial paralysis (facial deviation) and hemiplegia. [Facial deviation and hemiplegia are caused by the Zongqi (Pectoral Qi) failing to circulate throughout the body. The formula uses 2 qian of Baizhu, 1.5 qian of Wuyao, 5 fen each of Tianma and Renshen, and 3 fen each of Suye, Baizhi, Mugua, Qingpi, Zhigancao (Honey-fried Licorice), and Mochenxiang (Ground Aquilaria Wood), decocted with fresh ginger. Tianma, Suye, and Baizhi disperse wind pathogens; Wuyao, Qingpi, and Chenxiang promote Qi movement.]
Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Tiannanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma Preparatum), combined with Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus - acts horizontally on limbs), Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix - acts downward on lower limbs), and Weilingxian (Sinomenii Caulis - acts up and down). Taoren (Persicae Semen), Honghua (Carthami Flos), Longdancao (Gentianae Radix - acts downward), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Baizhi (acts upward), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma - acts up and down). This formula applies to conditions involving pain, wind, dampness, heat, phlegm, and blood stasis, serving as a general formula for the upper, middle, and lower Jiao (Triple Burner). [Huangbai (Wine-fried), Cangzhu (Soaked in rice water), Tiannanxing, Jiang (Fresh Ginger), and Zao (Jujubae Fructus) each 2 liang; Fangji, Taoren (De-husked and de-pitted), Longdancao, Baizhi, Chuanxiong, Shenqu (Stir-baked) each 1 liang; Guizhi, Weilingxian, Honghua, Qianghuo each 2.5 qian. Made into pills with wheat paste, named Shangzhongxia Tongyong Tongfeng Fang (Upper-Middle-Lower General Gout Formula) from Danxi. Huangbai clears heat, Cangzhu dries dampness, Longdan drains fire, Fangji promotes urination; these four treat dampness and heat. Taoren and Honghua invigorate blood and dispel stasis, Chuanxiong is a Qi-moving herb within blood-invigorating herbs, Tiannanxing disperses wind and dries phlegm; these four treat blood stasis and phlegm. Qianghuo removes wind from all joints, Baizhi removes wind from the head and face, Guizhi and Weilingxian remove wind from arms and shins; these four treat wind. Shenqu is added to resolve stagnant Qi in the Middle Jiao. If symptoms do not involve mixed pathogenic factors, modifications can be made for treatment.]
(Decoction, from *Qianjin Fang*) Qinjiao (Magnoliae Officinalis Bark? No, Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma); Chuanxiong, Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Lingzhi (Poria) in equal amounts. Plus Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Renshen, and Gancao, it treats cold wind stubborn bi-syndrome (obstruction syndrome), restoring flexibility. [Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Sangjisheng (Taxilli Herba), Qinjiao, Fangfeng, Xixin, Chuanxiong (Wine-rinsed), Danggui (Wine-rinsed), Baishao (Stir-fried), Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia Root), Guixin, Lingzhi, Duzhong (Stir-fried with ginger juice until fibers break), Niuxi, Renshen, Gancao in equal proportions. Take 4 qian per dose.] If Sangjisheng is removed and Xuduan (Dipsaci Radix) is added, the decoction is named Sanbi Tang (Three Obstructions Decoction), an ancient precious formula. [Named Sanbi Tang, treating Wind-Cold-Damp Bi-syndrome. Yu Jiayan stated: This formula uses Renshen and Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction), a group of tonifying herbs, plus Qinjiao...]
