春秋气候平和,两、三日可比夏一日;八、九日可比夏三、四日。
然人有肥瘦、老少。肥少者易坏,瘦老者难坏。

In the three months of spring: After two or three days, the flesh color around the mouth, nose, abdomen, both hypochondria, and chest becomes slightly bluish-green; after ten days, foul-smelling fluid (pi feng qie, meaning swollen and odorous) flows from the nose and ears, accompanied by swelling. This occurs in obese individuals; for those who have been chronically ill and emaciated, these signs appear only after half a month.
In the three months of summer: After one or two days, changes in flesh color begin first on the face, abdomen, both hypochondria, and chest; after three days, fluid flows from the mouth and nose, maggots appear, the whole body swells, lips evert, skin decays and peels off, and eruptions arise; after four or five days, hair falls out.
When covering a corpse during the hot season, the floating skin at injured sites is mostly white, while undamaged areas remain blue-black, making definite traces of injury invisible. If one avoids the stench and relies solely on superficial inspection, errors often occur. In cases of slight doubt, the floating skin must be peeled away; if there is an injury, the blood underneath will be clearly visible.
Furthermore, in the hot season, although no maggots may yet be present in the nine orifices, maggots may appear first in the temporal region, within the hairline, on both hypochondria, or inside the abdomen, indicating injuries at these specific locations.
In the three months of autumn: After two or three days, changes in flesh color begin first on the face, abdomen, both hypochondria, and chest; after four or five days, fluid flows from the mouth and nose, maggots appear, the whole body swells, lips evert, and eruptions arise; after six or seven days, hair falls out.
In the three months of winter: After four or five days, the flesh color of the body turns yellowish and tight, with slight changes; after half a month, changes begin first on the face, mouth, nose, both hypochondria, and chest.
If placed on wet ground and wrapped in straw mats [or buried], the corpse changes very slowly. One must carefully consider the beginning and end of the lunar month and determine the state based on the solar terms of spring and autumn.
During intense heat: After one day, the skin and flesh change, turning blue-dark, with residual breath; after three or four days, skin and flesh gradually decay, the corpse swells, maggots appear, fluid flows from the mouth and nose, and hair gradually falls out.
Five days of intense cold are equivalent to one day of intense heat; half a month of intense cold is equivalent to three or four days of intense heat.
The climate in spring and autumn is mild; two or three days correspond to one day in summer; eight or nine days correspond to three or four days in summer.
However, individuals vary in fatness and thinness, youth and old age. The obese decompose easily, while the emaciated and elderly decompose slowly.
Additionally, climates differ between north and south, and mountainous areas experience irregular temperature fluctuations; thus, flexible observation and examination are required on-site.
