Treats chest and diaphragm stuffiness, discomfort, and damage to the Spleen and Stomach. (From Jing Lu's biography.)
*Myristicae Semen* (prepared by stir-frying), *Cardamomi Fructus*, *Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma*, dried *Chaenomelis Fructum*, *Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma*, dried *Zingiberis Rhizoma*, *Magnoliae Cortex* (processed with ginger juice), *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (roasted), each 1 liang.
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder in equal parts. Take 1 qian per dose, administered with salt water.
These two prescriptions are from Fang Shi's *Bo Zhai Bian*.
*Stemonae Radix* (Note: Text says "Huai Hua" which usually refers to Sophora flower, but context implies topical application for bleeding. However, strictly translating "Huai Hua" as *Sophorae Flos* based on standard terminology, though the text might imply a specific local usage or typo for another herb. Given the instruction to keep names, I will translate literally as *Sophorae Flos* but note the context is topical powder).
Stir-fry the *Sophorae Flos* into a powder and apply it topically. In the past, a scholar suffered spontaneous bleeding from a small lesion. The physician did not know the disease, but casually stated this was named "She Nu" (epistaxis of the tongue). It was cured using this prescription.
*Pollen Typhae*
Grind the *Pollen Typhae* into a powder and apply it; authentic material is preferred. A scholar traveling east along the Bian River moored his boat at a village pier at night. His wife was fast asleep. He shook her and asked what was wrong, but she did not answer. He shook her again, and she woke up startled. Upon inspection, her tongue was swollen filling her mouth, and she could not speak. They urgently sought a doctor. An old man carrying a medicine bag arrived, applied the powder, and by dawn, her condition had returned to normal. When asked about the medicine, it turned out to be *Pollen Typhae*.
*Rhei Radix et Rhizoma*
Crush the *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma*. Mix with good vinegar and apply to the sore. *Yi Jian Zhi* records: A monk responsible for offerings at Jinshan Temple, angered by a cook's carelessness, immersed his hand in a hot pot. The pain was bone-deep, and he cried out as if dying. The deity bestowed this prescription, and he was cured.
Warm the Water Organ (Kidney) and brighten the eyes. (From the biography of Old Li the Painter in the Capital. Ordinary eye medicines are mostly cooling, which is not suitable for the Water Organ.)
*Cynomorii Herba* (2 liangs, soaked in wine overnight, then baked dry), *Morindae Officinalis Radix*, *Lycii Fructus*, *Chrysanthemi Flos*, *Toosendan Fructus* (each 1 liang).
Grind the above into a powder, mix with refined honey to make pills the size of tung tree seeds. Take 30 pills per dose, washed down with warm wine or salt water, taken on an empty stomach, before meals, and before bedtime.
(The following eight prescriptions are from Jing Lu's biography.)
*Borneolum Syntheticum* (1 qian), *Alumen* (half qian, used raw), *Realgar* (half qian).
Grind all together finely. Take a small amount of natural juice from fresh ginger and strong vinegar. Grind the root of *Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix* (Yang Ti Cai Gen) to a size of about two cun long and finger-thick. Mix with the medicine and rub/apply. There may be extreme pain for a short period after application, but effectiveness is seen within no more than three applications.
*Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina* (burned until carbonized but retaining efficacy), *Psoraleae Fructus* (equal parts).
Grind into a fine powder. Take with red wine or unadulterated wine.
