For infants and young children suffering from food stagnation leading to chest depression, epigastric fullness and stuffiness, qi stagnation, and vomiting upon smelling foul odors, it is appropriate to administer Wei Fu Wan (Baked Aconite Pill) and Wen Zhong Wan (Warm the Middle Pill).
Wei Fu Wan (Baked Aconite Pill)
Excellent Prescription:
Hei Fu Zi (Black Aconite Root, 2 qian, powdered), Ding Xiang (Clove, 5 pieces).
Mix the Hei Fu Zi powder with water to form a paste, wrap the Ding Xiang within it, then encase the whole in a dough wrapper. Bake thoroughly in sugar ash. Remove the dough wrapper, grind into fine powder, and form pills using fresh ginger juice, sized like hemp seeds. Take 30 pills per dose, administered with decoction of ginger and jujube.
For pediatric cases of Huo Luan (Cholera-like disorder) and vomiting due to imbalance of yin and yang qi, use Qing Jin Dan (Blue Gold Pill). Excellent Prescription:
Shui Yin (Mercury, 1 qian weight), Liu Huang (Sulfur).
Grind and mix until the mercury loses its metallic luster ("stars") and appears only as black ink color. Use fresh ginger juice to make a paste and form pills sized like hemp seeds. Take 10 to 20 pills per dose, administered with light ginger soup.
For infants and young children experiencing deficiency-type vomiting, where retching occurs during meals, often caused by Spleen cold or irregular post-vomiting dizziness, chest depression, and rebellious qi flow above and below, it is appropriate to administer Dou Kou San (Cardamom Powder) and Xiang Po Wan (Aucklandia and Magnolia Bark Pill).
Dou Kou San (Cardamom Powder)
Excellent Prescription:
Rou Dou Kou (Nutmeg, 1 piece, baked), Mu Xiang (Costus Root), Ding Xiang (Clove), Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Bai Fu Ling (Poria), Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-fried Licorice Root, each 1 qian weight), Huo Xiang Ye (Patchouli Leaf, 1 qian).
Grind all ingredients into powder. Mix 1.5 qian of powder with decoction of Huo Xiang (Patchouli) and jujube for administration; this is highly effective. Ginger soup may also be used.
For infants and young children suffering from phlegm-induced vomiting and wind obstruction, or cases complicated by wind invasion leading to excessive phlegm, coughing, fever, restlessness, mental agitation, poor sleep, and immediate regurgitation upon attempting to eat. This is typically due to wind-phlegm obstructing the diaphragm, preventing food descent. First administer Ban Ding Wan (Half Pinellia Pill), followed by Zheng Wei San (Stomach-Regulating Powder) and Zheng Qi Wen Zhong San (Righteous Qi Warming Middle Powder).
Ban Ding Wan (Half Pinellia Pill)
Excellent Prescription:
Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber, 0.5 liang; for infants, use half amount; wash seven times with boiling water then powder), Ding Xiang (Clove, 1 qian weight, crushed).
Moisten the Ban Xia powder with water to form a paste, wrap the Ding Xiang inside, then encase in dough. Bake until hot, remove dough, grind into powder, and form pills using fresh ginger juice, sized like hemp seeds. Take 20–30 pills per dose, administered with light ginger soup.
For infants and young children suffering from cold syndromes due to food injury, with rebellious qi failing to descend, persistent vomiting, and stagnant accumulation in the chest and diaphragm that fails to digest, Ta Qi Wan (Qi-Sinking Pill) is appropriate. If the child merely dry heaves frequently with a "hiccough" sound, Zheng Qi Wan (Righteous Qi Pill) is appropriate.
Zheng Qi Wan (Righteous Qi Pill)
Excellent Prescription:
Huo Xiang Ye (Patchouli Leaf), Zhi Hou Po (Ginger-processed Magnolia Bark), Chen Pi (Aged Tangerine Peel), Ban Xia Qu (Pinellia Fermented Leaven), Zhi Bai Zhu (Honey-fried Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Bai Fu Ling (Poria), each 1 qian; Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-fried Licorice Root, 2 qian); Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger, 1 qian); San Leng (Polygonum Cuspidatum Rhizome, processed, 2 qian).
Grind all ingredients into powder. Bind with refined honey to form pills the size of a finger. Administer one pill per dose, dissolved in ginger and jujube soup.
