Daquan states: Fetal restlessness and insecurity during pregnancy is caused by deficiency of the Chong and Ren meridians, resulting in unstable conception. It may also be caused by excessive drinking or sexual intercourse, which damages and disturbs the fetus; it may be caused by accidental blows or touches that disturb the fetus; it may be caused by emotional disturbances such as anger or joy leading to stagnation, damaging the Heart and Liver, and disturbing the blood vessels; it may be caused by trusting physicians who prescribe warming tonics, thereby harming the patient with medication. If fetal restlessness is caused by the mother's illness, treating the mother's illness will naturally stabilize the fetus. If the fetus is insecure and moves, causing maternal illness, stabilizing the fetus will naturally cure the mother. One should observe the mother's complexion and tongue: if the face is red and the tongue is cyanotic, the fetus is dead but the mother lives. If the face is cyanotic and the tongue is red, with foam coming from the mouth, the mother is dead but the fetus lives. If the lips are cyanotic and foam comes from the corners of the mouth, both mother and fetus die.
Ante-Partum Restlessness Powder (Antai San): To be taken regularly during pregnancy to stabilize the fetus. (Strengthening the Spleen, nourishing Blood, and clearing deficient Heat will naturally suffice the Chong and Ren meridians, thereby stabilizing the pregnancy.)
