The *Daquan* states: After delivery is completed, drink a cup of hot urine from a young boy. Do not lie down immediately; instead, keep your eyes closed and sit for a short while, then get into bed after a moment. You should lie on your back (supine position), not on your side; you should keep your knees upright and avoid extending your legs fully. Lean high against the headboard, use thick bedding, and seal all walls tightly to prevent gaps, thereby avoiding invasion by "thief wind" (pathogenic external factors). Then, apply vinegar to the nose, or use vinegar-fumed charcoal, or burn lacquerware to inhale the fumes. Additionally, massage with your hand from the heart area down to below the umbilicus to ensure that lochia (postpartum discharge of blood and mucus) does not stagnate. Maintain this routine for three days to prevent syncope due to blood loss (xue yun) and rebellious blood flow (xue ni). Regardless of whether there is abdominal pain or not, and regardless of being ill or healthy, take half a cup of mixture of child's urine and wine, warm and administer 5 to 7 doses. Although wine promotes blood circulation, it must not be consumed in excess, lest it draw blood into the four limbs and cause dizziness or fainting. It is advisable to frequently consume small amounts of white rice porridge. After one month, it is appropriate to consume small amounts of mutton and pig trotters. One must still be cautious with speech, regulate the Seven Emotions (joy, anger, worry, thought, sadness, fear, fright), protect against cold and heat, comb hair, and wash feet, maintaining these practices for a period of one hundred days. If the qi and blood are inherently weak, this duration applies regardless of specific days; otherwise, symptoms such as soreness and pain in the hands, feet, waist, and legs may occur, known as "Ru Lao" (postpartum consumptive fatigue), which is difficult to treat. At the time of initial delivery, do not ask whether the baby is male or female, lest speech deplete qi, or emotions of love or hate stir qi, both of which can cause disease (this is a crucial point). Do not live alone, lest it induce empty fright; do not scrape the tongue coating, lest it damage heart qi; do not brush teeth, lest it cause rebellious blood flow. Only when qi and blood have stabilized can one attend to affairs. Violating these rules initially seems as light as an autumn feather, but the resulting illness becomes as heavy as a mountain. Can one not be vigilant? (Chen Cangqi stated: Soaking ramie root juice for the mother to drink, or using ramie as a pillow for the mother, can stop bleeding and syncope; for postpartum abdominal pain, placing ramie on the abdomen stops the pain.) If the puerpera rests according to proper methods and the zang-fu organs are harmonized, various ailments can be avoided. One should first take Heishen San (Black Divine Powder), Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction), Sishun Lizhong Wan (Four-Smooth Regulation of the Middle Pill), and Qibao San (Seven Treasures Powder); if severe fever and headache occur, indicating that the milk channels are about to open, use Yulu San (Jade Dew Powder); if the head and eyes feel unclear, indicating xue yun (syncope due to blood loss), use Qinghun San (Clear Soul Powder); if food tastes bland, indicating deficiency of stomach qi, use Sishun Lizhong Wan (Four-Smooth Regulation of the Middle Pill). (These are practical treatment methods for immediate postpartum care; they must be memorized thoroughly.)
