It enters the Liver meridian, treats pain in the sinews and bones, unblocks the collaterals, breaks blood stasis, dissipates scrofula (tuberculous lymphadenitis of the neck), and attacks carbuncles and sores with redness and swelling. If a carbuncle or sore occurs on either shoulder, or on the seventh, eighth, or ninth vertebrae of the spine, or at the Jianjing (GB21) acupoint, it should be taken with Ku Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus). If pus is present, it promotes discharge; if no pus is present, it resolves the swelling.
