[Su Song] For processing, first singe off the root hairs with fire, cut finely, soak in wine overnight, steam from Si hour to Shen hour, then take out and dry in the sun for use. [Li Shizhen] Nowadays, people only cut and stir-fry it to remove the hairs and roots.
[Su Song] For processing Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), soak it in Lycii Fructus (Gouqizi) decoction overnight until slightly soft, drain, then soak in wine for one shichen (approx. 2 hours), drain again, and simmer together with Chrysanthemi Flos (Juhua) until scorched yellow. Remove the Chrysanthemum flowers, wipe dry with cloth, and use. [Li Shizhen] The current method: simply soak in wine overnight, cut, and bake for use. [Su Song] After harvesting, wash with clear water, scrape off the skin, cut into bean-sized pieces on a locust wood cutting board using a copper knife. Place in a raw linen bag, soak overnight in Vigna mungo (Wudou) water, take out, mix with wine to moisten, and steam from Si hour to Hai hour. Take out and dry in the sun. Do not come into contact with iron vessels or cow's milk, as this may cause hair loss and beard falling. [Li Tingfei (Da Ming)] adds...
[Su Song] After harvesting, layer with cattail grass, steam in a steamer for two shichen (approx. 4 hours), dry in the sun, and use. Do not contact copper vessels; ingestion may cause choking and damage vision.
[Su Song] For processing [Herb Name Missing], melt 3 liang (150g) of wax in water per jin (500g) of herb, mix and steam. When the water dries, remove the head and the "whiskers" on both sides, cut finely, and use.

[Su Song] Qinjiao must be identified by the texture at the base of the stem: if the left-side texture forms the character "Qin", it treats diseases; if the right-side texture forms the character "Jiu", it induces Hong Kong foot (podagra/tinea pedis). When using Qinjiao, wipe off the yellow-white hairs with cloth, then soak in Huanyuan Tang overnight, dry in the sun, and use.
