[Su Gong said] The method for preparing Tiehua Fen (Iron Flower Powder): Take steel and shape it into leaves, like a tablet or a round cake. Polish the flat surface until smooth and clean. Sprinkle it with salt water, and place it in a vinegar jar.
[Tao Hongjing said] Yuxie (Jade Shavings) refers to jade ground into shavings; it is not another substance. Daoist texts record the ingestion of jade, which can be pounded into grains resembling rice, then dissolved in Kujiu (bitter wine/vinegar) into a mud-like consistency. Some are mixed into a paste. Generally, when ingesting jade, one must not use already crafted vessels, nor jade from tombs.
[Su Gong said] Ingesting jade should prioritize those that can be dissolved into water.
[Qingxia Zi said] The method for making Yujiang (Jade Pulp): Take one sheng of Yuxie (Jade Shavings), one sheng of Diyu Cao (Sanguisorba officinalis herb), one sheng of Daomi (Rice). Collect two sheng of Bailu (White Dew water), and boil in a copper vessel until the rice is cooked.
Zhucuo (Vermilion Grass) is an auspicious grass. Practitioners take Chan Chu Gao (Toad Bile/Grease) to soften jade into mud, dissolving it with Kujiu (vinegar) into a liquid state.
[Anonymous said] When using jade, those that are yellow-black, thick, and stubborn are unsuitable. Those that are red due to being handled by women's hands are also unsuitable. One must select those that are lustrous, crystal-clear, and ice-colored as the highest grade. For every jin (500g) of jade, use Xiaodidanchao (Scutellaria barbata herb), Zibeitiankui (Alternanthera sessilis var. purpurea), Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice Root), and Dihuang Zhi (Rehmannia Juice), each one yi (approx. 16-24g). Cut dry herbs finely, extract juice from wet ones. Place in a porcelain jar... [text missing] ...use Chi Shui (Pool Water)... or... or... remove... in a clay jar... cherish... powder... make.

[Anonymous said] Whenever processing Zhusha (Cinnabar), burn incense in a quiet room, fast, and bathe first. Take the cinnabar, wash it with fragrant water, wipe dry, crush and pound it. [Anonymous said] When using Zhusha (Cinnabar), do not use Caogong (Grass Mercury), cinnabar from old vermilion lacquer, cinnabar processed by other drugs, cinnabar found in corpses, or half-cooked/half-dead cinnabar. If the cinnabar contains slightly red mercury (Shuiyin), store it in a gourd after collection to prevent loss. [Li Shizhen said] The method for sublimating Qingfen (Calomel/Light Powder): Take one liang of Shuiyin (Mercury), two liang of Baifan (Alumen), and one liang of Yanshi (Salt). Grind them together until no star-like particles are visible. Spread inside an iron vessel. Cover with a small black basin. Sieve stove ash, mix with salt water, and seal the mouth of the basin tightly. Heat with charcoal fire for the time it takes to burn two incense sticks. Open it, and the powder will have sublimated onto the upper basin. The powder is white as... as above... white... how... [text missing]
