It belongs to the Du Meridian (Conception Vessel of the Back). For general fever caused by consumptive diseases and various types of malaria, needle this acupoint.
Shenzhu (GV12) [Shenzhu (Pillar of Spirit), GV12]: Located in the depression below the spinous process of the third thoracic vertebra, three vertebral segments below Dazhui. It belongs to the Du Meridian. For stiffness and pain of the spine and back, coughing and vomiting, convulsions, and fever, needle this acupoint.
Mingmen (GV4) [Mingmen (Gate of Life), GV4]: Located in the depression below the spinous process of the fourth lumbar vertebra (historically counted as the 14th vertebra from the top). It belongs to the Du Meridian. For pulling pain in the waist and abdomen, severe headache as if bursting, abdominal urgency and cramping, and convulsions, needle this acupoint.
Feishu (BL13) [Feishu (Lung Shu), BL13]: Located two cun lateral to the depression below the spinous process of the third thoracic vertebra. It belongs to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. For tuberculosis (transmitted corpse disease), lung atrophy, hemoptysis, cough, and asthma, needle both acupoints bilaterally.
Fengchi (GB20) [Fengchi (Wind Pool), GB20]: Located in the depression behind the ear, where pressure induces sensation into the ear. It belongs to the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. For deafness with tinnitus, mandibular dislocation, trismus (lockjaw), facial pain, toothache with swelling, needle both acupoints bilaterally.
Gaohuang (BL43) [Gaohuang (Gao Huang), BL43]: Located three cun five fen lateral to the depression below the spinous process of the fourth thoracic vertebra. It belongs to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. For damage due to overwork and deficiency, lung atrophy, hemoptysis, cough with sputum, alternating chills and fever, and weakness in the four limbs, needle both acupoints bilaterally.
Pishu (BL20) [Pishu (Spleen Shu), BL20]: Located two cun lateral to the depression below the spinous process of the eleventh thoracic vertebra. It belongs to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. For various types of jaundice, flaccidity and inability to control the four limbs, bi-syndrome (painful obstruction), epigastric pain, diarrhea and dysentery, regurgitation (fanwei), accumulations and masses, and chronic malaria, needle both acupoints bilaterally.
