(When refining honey, only twelve and a half taels can be obtained. If the fire is too weak or too strong, it is unsuitable. For every jin of honey refined, add four liang of water, place it in a silver or stoneware vessel, and slowly refine over mulberry wood fire. Skim off the floating foam until a drop forms a bead that does not disperse when dropped into water; this is then ready for use, known as the "Water-Fire Refining Method." Another method involves placing the vessel in a double boiler (Chong Tang) to boil for one day. When a drop no longer disperses in water, remove and use. This method is less damaging to the fire.)

(Wax is the bottom of the honeycomb. After obtaining honey, refine and filter it, pouring it into water. Wait for it to solidify, then retrieve it. Those with a yellow color are called Huang La (Yellow Wax); those refined extremely cleanly and appearing white are called Bai La (White Wax). One theory states that newly made wax is white and turns yellow over time, which differs from the insect-made white wax used today. Wax fears Yuan Hua (Genkwa Flos) and Qi Ge.)

(Those facing left on the left side are of good quality. Use flowing water from the east, add one liang of salt, boil for one fu shi (approx. two hours), then throw into fire to burn until thoroughly red. Then, place in a mortar and grind into powder for use. Another method involves quenching in vinegar over fire seven times, grinding extremely fine like flying flour. Bei Mu (Fritillariae Bulbus) acts as its assistant herb. It works well with Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Yuan Zhi (Polygalae Radix), and She Chuang Zi (Cnidii Fructus). It fears Ma Huang (Ephedrae Herba), Xin Yi (Magnoliae Flos), and Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus); Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) can subdue it.)

(Ground in a mortar until fine, sift repeatedly through silk gauze, then grind twenty thousand times before use. If not fine enough, it will damage the zang-fu organs. When using Shi Jue Ming (Haliotidis Concha), ensure there are no cracks or perforations. Another method is to steam it in tofu to make it easier to crush. For use in treating eyes, use raw without steaming; following the above method is preferable.)

(Use raw for medicinal purposes because its nature and flavor remain complete. Once calcined by fire, it is unsuitable for use, similar to the distinction between Sheng Xi Jiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu) and Shu Xi Jiao.)

(When using, do not select those growing on miscellaneous trees; they are not for medicinal use. Must select branches from beside mulberry trees. After harvesting, remove the pits. Soak and wash seven times with boiling浆 water (fermented liquid/water), ensuring the water penetrates and boils, then dry in a porcelain pot. Do not perform other arbitrary processing methods, as they will be ineffective. Combined with Long Gu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi), it can stop essence loss. It fears Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos) and Dai Shen.)

(This is Zhen Zhu Mu (Pteri Concha). Those with seven to nine holes are of good quality. First, remove the rough outer skin. Boil with salt and eastern flowing water in a large porcelain vessel for one fu shi. Remove, wipe dry, crush into powder, and grind finely. Wash three times again with eastern flowing water in a porcelain vessel. After drying, grind ten thousand times before adding to medicine. For every five liang processed, use half a fen of salt; taking it yields results. Ten liang of Shi Jue Ming should never be consumed with Shan Tao (Prunus Persica Seed), as it causes blindness.)
