Yilao Qufeng Wan (Easy Old Wind-Expelling Pill): Treats scabies and leprosy. The *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) states: "Wind entering the vessels leads to disease, which is leprosy."
Herbs: Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata), Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix), Digupi (Lycii Cortex), Gouqizi (Lycii Fructus).
The above nine herbs are pounded into a fine powder using a wooden mortar and pestle, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of tung tree seeds. Take 50 pills with warm water.
Commentary: This prescription originates from the category of wind-disease treatments for the Shaoyin meridian.
Dongpo Sishen Dan (Dongpo Four-God Decoction): Previously, physicians did not have a dedicated prescription consisting solely of these four ingredients. Long-term consumption can cure severe wind diseases (leprosy).
Herbs: Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix).
Commentary: This prescription originates from the category of kidney-qi treatments for the Shaoyin meridian.
Buqi Xieying Tang (Tonifying Qi and Draining Ying Decoction): Treats "Kushi" suffering from li feng (leprosy). The face and neck are extremely itchy, eyebrows have fallen out, requiring hot water irrigation for slight relief. This must be done several times a day or night. Alternatively, scarification (bi ci) provides slight relief. I recall the *Huangdi Neijing* stating: "Li feng is caused by heat in the ying and wei levels. Treatment involves using sharp needles to puncture swollen areas and drain the evil qi until the swelling subsides." If treating with medicine, one should break up stagnant blood, remove heat, raise yang qi, relieve itching, drain ying heat, circulate qi and blood, use acrid-warm herbs to disperse, sweet-warm herbs to tonify, guide the action to the Yangming meridian, clear heart fire, and tonify lung qi. This is the correct method of treatment.
Herbs: Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus) [6 qian each], Sumu (Sappan Lignum], Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Quanxie (Scorpio), Dilong (Pheretima) [3 fen each], Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) [raw, 4 fen each], Renshen (Ginseng Radix) [2 fen], Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [1.5 fen], Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) [0.5 qian], Taoren (Persicae Semen) [3 pieces], Shexiang (Moschus) [a small amount], Hutonglei (Tamarisci Flos) [1 fen], Mengchong (Tabanus) [wings and feet removed, fried, 3 pieces], Shuizhi (Hirudo) [fried until smoke ceases, 3 pieces], Baidoukou (Cardamomi Fructus) [2 fen].
Preparation: Except for Lianqiao which is sliced separately, Hutonglei and Baidoukou are ground into fine powder and set aside separately. Shexiang, Mengchong, and Shuizhi are ground into fine powder and set aside separately. All ingredients constitute one dose. Add two cups of water and one cup of wine, decoct until 1.6 cups remain. Add Lianqiao and decoct further. Strain. Then add the Baidoukou powder and the Shexiang/Mengchong/Shuizhi powders. Re-decoct until 0.7 cups remain. Take slightly warm after breakfast. Avoid alcohol, wheat products, and cold/raw/hard foods.
Baojian Zuixian San (Treasure Mirror Intoxicating Immortal Powder): Treats severe wind disease with generalized urticaria, itching, and numbness.
Herbs: Humaizi (Sesami Fructus), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), Gouqizi (Lycii Fructus), Manjingzi (Viticis Fructus) [1 liang each, stir-fried together], Baijili (Tribuli Fructus), Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix), Gualougen (Trichosanthis Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) [0.5 liang each].
Grind all into a fine powder. For every 15 qian of powder, mix in 1 qian of Qingfen (Calomelas). Take 1 qian per dose, mixed with tea water, taken once in the morning, noon, and evening. After five to seven days of taking this medicine, foul yellow saliva will first exude from the gum spaces. Subsequently, the whole body will ache, and the patient will feel dizzy and intoxicated-like. Then, pus, blood, and foul-smelling gas will be discharged, eliminating the root of the disease.
Commentary: According to Danxi’s formula, use 2 qian of Qingfen and 0.5 liang each of the other eight herbs. The first four herbs should be coarsely powdered and stir-fried until purple. Dosage must be adjusted according to the patient's size and deficiency/excess patterns. For severe and acute cases, first administer Zaizao San to purge, then wait for recovery and nourishment before administering this medicine. During the course of this medicine, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, meat, fish, spices, fruits, roasted/grilled/fried foods must be avoided. Only plain congee and boiled vegetables may be consumed, also lightly seasoned. Eggplant is forbidden. Only snake meat steamed with plain wine may be eaten to assist the medicinal effect.
