[ Yuanrong Tiaowei Wan (Regulate the Stomach Pill by Yuanrong) ] Treats toothache with unceasing bleeding.
The above prescription (referring to Tiaowei Chengqi Tang) is ground into fine powder and made into pills with honey for administration.
[ Shengma Wan (Cimicifugae Pill) ] Treats heat pathogen attacking the teeth, causing swelling, pain, and a surging, full, and solid pulse.
Herbs: Xixin (Asari Radix), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Qianniu (Pharbitidis Semen), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma).
The above herbs are divided into equal parts, processed with refined honey into pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 20 pills each time, administered with warm water before sleep.
Note: These two formulas belong to the category of Yangming channel medications. Theoretical discussions state that the disease source lies in the branch vessels of the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine channel entering the gums; teeth are the termination of bones, nourished by marrow. If wind-cold pathogens lodge in the channels and damage the bone marrow, cold qi entering the tooth roots causes toothache. If both the Stomach and Large Intestine have excessive heat, leading to constipation and channel stagnation causing gum pain, the treatment methods differ.
[ Dongyuan Qingwei San (Dongyuan's Clear the Stomach Powder) ] Treats unbearable pain in upper and lower teeth caused by taking hot-natured medicines, radiating to the head and face with fever and severe pain, preferring cold and disliking heat.
Herbs: Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, 2 fen, prepared with wine), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 1 qian), Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex, half qian), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 3 fen), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 3 fen).
The above herbs are ground into coarse powder as one dose, decocted in water, and taken when cooled.
[ Shengong Wan (Divine Merit Pill) ] Treats bad breath intolerable to others due to excessive meat consumption, dental caries (gan erosion), impending detachment of gingival tissue, loose teeth, and unceasing bleeding.
Herbs: Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, prepared with wine), Sharen (Amomi Fructus, half liang each), Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 3 qian each), Huoxiangye (Pogostemonis Leaf), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Dangguishen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Lanxiangye (Costi Folium or substitute, 1 qian each if Huoxiangye is unavailable), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 2 qian).
The above herbs are ground into fine powder, mixed with steamed bread dough soaked in liquid, and formed into pills the size of mung beans. Take 100 to 200 pills each time, administered with plain boiled water long after meals.
Note: These two formulas also belong to the category of Yangming channel medications.
[ Secret Formula ] Mashaye (a specific insect/part, used here as a specific medicinal material) burned to retain its properties, ground into fine powder and applied to the affected area for immediate cure.
[ Ruizhutang Formula ] Treats toothache caused by worms.
Tianxianzi (Hyoscyami Semen) in any quantity, burned to produce smoke. Use a bamboo tube to direct the smoke into the teeth; the worms will die.
Caution: Worms in the gums arise from excessive damp-heat in the Stomach Earth. Practitioners should treat the root cause.
[ Tonifying Agents ]
[ Jingui Bawei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill from the Golden Cabinet) ] Treats toothache due to Kidney deficiency.
See "Tonifying Deficiency Section" for the formula.
[ Sanyin Anshen Wan (Three Causes' Kidney-Anchoring Pill) ] Treats toothache and swelling due to deficient stagnation.
See "Lower Back Pain Section" for the formula.
Note: These two formulas belong to the Shaoyin channel category.
[ Tooth Extraction Medicine ]
[ Ben Shi Fang (Formula from My Experience) ] Causes teeth to fall out without manual extraction.
Herbs: Caowu (Aconiti Radix), Bibai (Long Pepper Fruit), Chuanjiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium), Xixin (Asari Radix, 3 liang each).
The above herbs are ground into fine powder. Apply a small amount to the affected area; the tooth will naturally fall out.
Caution: Loose teeth are often due to Wind-Heat or Damp-Heat in the Yangming channel causing gan erosion of the gums, exposing the roots, leading to gradual loosening and loss over time. However, one should seek the root cause and treat internally.
[ External Hardening Application ] Applying hardening agents externally may offer some stabilization, but merely allowing teeth to loosen and fall out is incorrect. Moreover, this medicine is too drying and irritating, likely unsuitable for long-term use. It is recorded here only as a reference example.
[ Teeth Hardening Medicines ]
[ Shengji Zonglu Formula ] Treats loose teeth.
Heixi (Black Tin) half jin, melted in an iron pot. Add Sangtiao Hui (Ash of Mulberry Branches), grind with a Willow Wood Pestle until it becomes sand-like. Sieve through fine silk cloth to obtain powder. Every morning, brush teeth with this powder, rinse with warm water, and spit into a basin. Washing eyes with this water brightens vision; washing temples makes hair black.
Food Therapy records: Treats loose teeth and bleeding, curing them and making teeth firm.
Herbs: Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus, 2 ding), Yan (Salt, half liang).
Burn until red-hot, grind finely. Rub on teeth every night for one month.
[ Xiye Huafeng Formula ]
Zhuya Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus without thorns), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Xiguo Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma from Western Regions), Shu Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata), Mulu (possibly a local herb), Hanliancao (Ecliptae Herba), Huaiguoz (Sophorae Fructus), Xixin (Asari Radix), Heye (Nelumbinis Leaf, take the center), Qingyan (Green Salt). Equal proportions, burn together, grind finely for best results.
Effects: Brushing teeth strengthens them, darkens beard and hair. Who knows there are such immortal formulas in the world?
[ Yuanrong Shexiang Jianyu San (Yuanrong's Musk and Jade Clearing Powder) ]
Suan Shiliupi (Pericarpium Granati Acidi), Hezi (Terminaliae Chebulae Fructus, 2 liang each), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Lüfan (Calamine, calcined), Heshouwu (Polygoni Multiflori Radix), Qingyan (Green Salt), Baiyaojian (Myrobalan Fermented Confection), Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis), Meishizi (Seminar Jujubae Spinosae), Baifuren (Poria, 1 liang), Shidanfan (Alumen), Xixin (Asari Radix, half liang each), Heyehui (Ash of Nelumbinis Leaf), Baitan (Santalum Album), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Gansong (Nardostachyos Radix et Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Huixiang (Foeniculi Fructus), Huoxiangye (Pogostemonis Leaf), Zhuya Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus, ash), Muguaizi (Momordicae Semen), Bibai (Long Pepper Fruit), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis, 1.5 qian each), Shexiang (Moschus, 1 qian), Naozi (Borneol, half qian).
Grind all into powder. Rinse mouth with tea water after application. Alternative formula: If Borneol is unavailable, add Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum) 2 qian.
[ Ruizhutang Formula Jili San (Tribulus Powder) ] Treats loose teeth.
Jiligen (Tribuli Radix) alone, burned to ash, applied to the loose area.
[ Dongyuan Baiya San (Dongyuan's White Tooth Powder) ]
Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 1 qian), Guhui (Bone Ash, 2 qian), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, 7 fen), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 1.5 qian), Shexiang (Moschus, a little).
Grind into powder. First rinse with warm water, then rub.
Note: Teeth are the surplus of bones, nourished by essence and qi. However, frequent brushing when healthy is inadvisable, as it may harm essence and Kidney qi. In the past, someone who frequently brushed teeth with Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix) later suffered from lower back pain due to Kidney injury. Select the above formulas according to the syndrome.
[ Yan Shi Xiangyan San (Yan's Fragrant Salt Powder) ] Commonly used to strengthen teeth, dispel wind-cold, and treat caries and exposed roots.
Da Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma, stir-fried until very black, 3 liang), Qingyan (Green Salt, half liang, separately ground).
Grind into fine powder and apply by rubbing as usual.
