[Jingji Qianghuo Tang] Treats conditions where the pathogenic factor is half in the exterior and half in the interior.
Ingredients: Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Baifuling (Poria), Manjingzi (Vittaginis Fructus) (each 1 liang), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (each 0.5 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Coarsely crush the herbs. For each dose, use 5 qian, decoct with water, add 5 slices of fresh ginger, and take hot. Administer two to three times daily.
Note: This formula consists of herbs belonging to the Three Yang meridians.
[Diyu Fangfeng San] Treats tetanus (po shang feng) where the pathogenic factor is half in the exterior and half in the interior, characterized by slight sweating on the head but no sweating on the body. Forced diaphoresis is contraindicated; treatment should address both the exterior and interior.
Ingredients: Didingcao (Violaris Herba), Machixian (Portulacae Herba), Diyu (Sanguisorbae Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (equal parts).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into a fine powder. Take 3 qian per dose, mixed with warm rice soup.
[Jingji Dakuoniao Tang] Treats tetanus accompanied by dysfunction of the zang-fu organs, reddish urine, and continuous spontaneous sweating.
Ingredients: Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (each 1 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Coarsely crush the herbs. Take 5-7 qian per dose, decoct with water, and take warm. Continue until the zang-fu organs are harmonized.
Note: This formula consists of herbs belonging to the Three Yang meridians. The spontaneous sweating here indicates an interior excess syndrome. Similar to yangming disease with profuse sweating requiring urgent purgation, if tetanus presents with fright-induced convulsions and constipation indicating an interior pathology, this purgative formula can be used.
Jiaobiao Wan treats tetanus with fright-induced convulsions when the zang-fu are obstructed, indicating an interior condition suitable for purgation.
Ingredients: Jiaobiao (Ostreae Testa, crushed and calcined, 0.5 liang), Yegefen (Columbae Excrementum, 0.5 liang, stir-fried), Xionghuang (Realgar, 1 qian), Baijiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus, 0.5 liang), Wugong (Scolopendra, one pair, roasted), Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma, 1 liang).
Note: Using only the first four ingredients is called Zulong Wan.
Preparation and Administration: Grind into a fine powder and divide into three parts. Take two parts, mix with steamed rice flour to make pills the size of tung tree seeds, coated with Zhusha (Cinnabaris). Take the remaining one part, mix with 1 qian of Badoushuang (Euphorbiae Seminis Preparatum), and also form pills the size of tung tree seeds using steamed rice flour, without Zhusha coating. Each dose consists of 20 pills coated with Zhusha plus one pill containing Badou. Increase the number of Badou pills to two in the second dose, gradually increasing until diarrhea occurs. Then resume taking the Zhusha-coated pills alone until recovery.
Note: This formula follows the principles of the jueyin meridian.
[Jingji Baizhu Fangfeng Tang] Treats spontaneous sweating caused by excessive use of exterior-releasing medications.
Ingredients: Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (each 1 liang), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (2 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Coarsely crush the herbs. Take 5-7 qian per dose, decoct with water, and take warm at any time. If the zang-fu are harmonized but spontaneous sweating persists, this formula may be used. However, if there is constipation, reddish urine, and spontaneous sweating without cold signs, do not use this formula; instead, purge rapidly using Dakuoniao Tang.
Note: This formula involves herbs belonging to the hand shaoyang, foot yangming, foot taiyin, and foot taiyang meridians.
[Baizhu Tang] Treats tetanus with profuse continuous sweating, muscle spasms, and convulsions.
Ingredients: Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) (each 1 liang), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (each 0.5 liang), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) (2 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (2.5 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Coarsely crush the herbs. Take 1 qian per dose, decoct with water, and take warm at any time.
Note: This formula consists of herbs belonging to the yangming and taiyin meridians.
