Jisheng Kuizi Decoction treats fullness and distension of the abdomen, difficulty in urination, and dryness of the mouth and tongue caused by excess heat in the Bladder.
Chi Fuling (Poria with Hostwood), Zhuling (Polyporus), Kuizi (Abelmoschi Fructus), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Qumai (Dianthi Herba), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), Huashi (Talcum), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (equal parts).
The above herbs are coarsely crushed. For each dose of half a liang, add ginger and decoct. Take on an empty stomach.
Note: This formula is a modification of Bazheng San (Eight-Ingredient Powder for Rectification). *Yonglei Qianfang* lists it as a treatment for hernia, which is quite reasonable; therefore, it is included here.
Zihe Dao Shui Wan (He Zi's Water-Guiding Pill)
(See formula in the Dampness section)
Note: This follows the medication principles of the Yangming channel. However, when damp-heat stagnates and knots in the lower jiao, no other remedy can cure it as effectively as this one. It can be used even if both qi and blood are deficient.
Baojian Jili Tang (Treasure Mirror Tribulus Decoction) treats pain from yin hernia.
Jili (Tribuli Fructus) (remove spines), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) (remove peel, half a liang each).
Grind into fine powder. Each time take three qian, decoct in water, and take warm before meals.
Danxi Formula: Rapidly relieves hernia qi pain.
Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Shanzhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Tangqiuzi (likely referring to a specific seed or fruit variant, kept as Tangqiuzi), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus) (all stir-fried), Lizhihe (Litchi Seed).
Grind into fine powder. Mix with flowing water and take one or two qian on an empty stomach.
Another formula treats conditions where Yangming channel receives damp-heat that transmits to the Taiyang channel, resulting in aversion to cold, fever, tubercles in the lower abdomen extending to the pubic region, stifling pain that is unbearable.
Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) (stir-fried), Taoren (Persicae Semen) (stir-fried), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus) (stir-fried), Tangqiuzi (equal parts).
Grind into fine powder. Place in a mortar, add ginger juice, and use one zhong of water to swirl and suspend the powder. Decoct until hot and take.
Note: The above belong to the medication principles of the Taiyang channel.
Jufang Pancong San (Prescription Bureau Scallion-Coiling Powder) treats cold hernia and qi hernia, where qi rebels upward to the heart causing pain.
Yanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizoma), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (each half a jin), Fuling (Poria), Pengzhu (Curcumae Phaeocaulis Rhizoma), Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride) (six liang), Dingpi (Eugeniae Caryophyllati Cortex), Sharen (Amomi Fructus), Binglang (Arecae Semen) (each four liang), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (two liang).
Grind into fine powder. Each time take two qian, add one stalk of scallion with roots, decoct in water, and take on an empty stomach.
Yan Jian San (Salt-Fried Powder) treats cold hernia with sudden severe pain due to cold qi.
Caoguo (Tsaoko Fructus), Sharen (Amomi Fructus), Binglang (Arecae Semen), Nongpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Roudoukou (Myristicae Semen), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Bichengqie (Schisandrae Fructus), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Liangjiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Huixiang (Foeniculi Fructus), Da Mai (Hordei Fructus Chlamydatus), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (each two liang).
Coarsely crush or keep as powder. For each dose of half a liang, decoct in water and add a small amount of salt.
Note: These two formulas are harsh agents for drying the spleen and guiding qi. They are commonly used by laypeople, so they are included here.
Baojian Chuan Kousou San (Treasure Mirror Sichuan Melia Powder) treats unbearable pain from small intestine qi.
Guangmuxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Huixiang (Foeniculi Fructus) (stir-fry with a pinch of salt, then remove salt, each one liang), Da Chuanlianzi (Meliae Toosendan Fructus) (one liang, cut into pieces, stir-fry together with ten seeds of Badou [Crotonis Semen] broken open until yellow, then remove Badou).
Grind into fine powder. Each time take two qian, mix with one cup of warm wine, and take on an empty stomach.
Note: This guides cold qi from the Hand-Taiyang channel. Compared to the previous two formulas, it is more reasonable for treating hernia.
