Jinkui Shwei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill from the Golden Cabinet) treats Hongjiao (a disease characterized by swelling and pain in the feet) of the Foot-Shaoyin Meridian entering the abdomen, causing abdominal distension and pain, and shortness of breath with wheezing. This is caused by deficiency-cold of the Kidney Meridian. This condition is most critical; because Kidney Water overacts upon the Heart, suppressing Heart Fire, death can occur within the blink of an eye if not treated immediately. The formula is found in the "Tonifying Deficiency" section. Note: This is a medication for treating Yin deficiency complicated by cold-dampness.
Sanyin Shenyang Zhen Dan (Divine Response Nourishing True Pill from Three Causes) treats invasion of the Foot-Jueyin Meridian by the four climatic pathogens, leading to left-sided paralysis or right-sided hemiplegia, profuse phlegm-saliva, hemiplegia, numbness and stiffness of the hands and feet, slurred speech, stagnation of Ying and Wei Qi in the feet and knees, and pain throughout the body. The formula adds Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) and Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma) to Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction). Grind the above herbs into fine powder, mix with honey to form pills the size of chicken eggs. Take one pill per dose, administered with wine infused with Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus) and Tusizi (Cuscutae Semen). Note: This is a formula for treating blood deficiency complicated by wind-dampness.
Jiawei Sijin Wan (Modified Four-Jin Pill) treats weakness and inability to stand due to flaccidity syndrome (Wei syndrome), with pain and soreness in the feet and knees. The formula is found in the "Flaccidity Syndrome" section. Note: This is a formula for treating blood deficiency complicated by wind-heat.
Sanyin Zisuzi Tang (Perilla Seed Decoction from Three Causes) treats weak legs and rebellious Qi (Qi counterflow), where Yin and Yang are intermingled and clear and turbid Qi fail to separate. Symptoms include heaviness in the upper body and emptiness in the lower body, epigastric fullness, asthma and urgency, vomiting, spontaneous sweating, and loss of regular physiological patterns. Ingredients include: Zisuzi (Perillae Fructus, slightly stir-fried) and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 5 liang each); Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, processed), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 2 liang each); Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 3 liang each). Crush the herbs into coarse pieces. For each dose, take 4 qian, add Jujubae Fructus (Zao) and Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang), decoct, and take orally. Note: Derived from Shaoyang cases, this is applicable for blood deficiency with Qi rebellion.
Sanyin Shengjun Wan (Victorious Cavalier Pill from Three Causes) treats insufficiency of Yuan Qi invaded by cold-damp Qi, resulting in spasms and curling of the waist and feet, wandering pain from the dorsum of the foot to the toes, inability to extend the sinews and vessels, and difficulty walking. Regular use benefits Yuan Qi and strengthens sinews and bones. Ingredients include: Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, one piece, prepared), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, soaked in wine overnight), Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, soaked in wine), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Suanzaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen, stir-fried), Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, 2 liang each); Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus, 4 liang); Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Xurxiang (Boswelliae Resina, half liang), Shexiang (Moschus, 2 qian), Quanxie (Scorpio, stir-fried), Moyao (Myrrhae Resina), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried, 1 liang each). Grind the above herbs into powder. Use 3 jin of fresh Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) ground into a paste, mixed with 4 sheng of unadulterated wine, boiled until thick like paste. Mix evenly with the herb powder and pound until firm. Make ten pills per liang of powder. Chew thoroughly before taking, administer with wine before sleep. If fresh Dihuang is unavailable in winter, use refined honey to make pills the size of wu-tzu seeds (small round pills), taking 50 pills per dose. Note: This is a medication for treating blood deficiency with excess wind-cold-dampness, belonging to the category of Qi and Blood formulas.
