Guoshi Ruixiao Wan (Guo's Efficacious Pill) is indicated for intestinal abscess, gastric abscess, internal accumulation, and also for various accumulations and masses in both men and women.
The ingredients include: Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Bupleuri Radix (Jingsanleng), Areca Seed (Binglang), Momordicae Semen (Mubiezi), Pangolin Scales (Chuanshanjia, stir-fried, 1 liang each for the first four); Oyster Shell (Muli, ground into powder, used together with stir-fried Pangolin Scales); Forsythiae Fructus (Lianqiao), Aurantii Fructus (Zhike, stir-fried, 1.5 liang each for these two); Sandalwood (Sha, roasted); Amber (Hupo, 1 liang each for Sha and Hupo); Croton Seed (Badou, 21 grains, oil removed); Musk (Shexiang, a small amount).
Grind all ingredients into fine powder, mix with wine paste to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 10 to 20-30 pills per dose, administered with warm wine, and take another dose before going to bed. If the medicine causes excessive bowel movement or organ disturbance, reduce the number of pills. If pus and blood appear in stool or urine, switch to other medications for treatment.
Wanling Duoming Dan (Ten Thousand Spirits Life-Seizing Pill), also known by Guo as Yanshou Jishi Gao (Longevity and World-Saving Paste), Ruyi Jindan (Ruyi Golden Pill), Guangxiao Baoming Dan (Broad-Efficacy Life-Preserving Pill), Zhusha Beijigao (Cinnabar Emergency Paste), Sanjiao Jishi Gao (Three Teachings World-Saving Paste), Xianshou Lingbao Gao (Immortal Bestowal Spiritual Treasure Paste), and Shengseng Cijiu Gao (Holy Monk Compassionate Rescue Paste), are actually all names for the same preparation.
It is indicated for all types of sores and swellings, early-stage ding ulcers (hard, deep-seated skin infections) with a deep and solid pulse, and cases where pathogenic heat/toxins remain inside after the administration of diaphoretic (sweat-inducing) medicines. It is suitable for purgation to expel toxins.
The ingredients include: Cinnabar (Zhusha), Salt Flower (Yanhua, 2.5 qian each for the first two); Realgar (Xionghuang), Alum (Mingfan, raw use), Liquidambar Resin (Fengxiang, 2 qian each for these three); Red Lead (Huandan), Halloysitum Rubrum (Chishizhi), Amber (Hupo), Calomelas (Qingfen, 1.5 qian each for these four); Musk (Shexiang), Borneolum Syntheticum (Pian Nao, 1 qian each for these two); Croton Seed (Badou, shelled and boiled in water for ten boils), Castor Seed (Bima, separately ground, 49 grains each for Badou and Bima).
Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Mix with the paste made from Croton Seeds and Castor Seeds to form pills. If it is difficult to form pills, add refined honey to make a paste, and store in porcelain containers. When needed, shape into pills the size of a chestnut. Take one pill per dose, swallowed well-water (well-spring water), or decoction is also acceptable. Avoid hot foods for half a day after administration. Adjust the dosage for adults and children according to their condition.
According to Guo’s medication protocol: Generally, when suffering from any sores or swellings, if the pulse indicates an exterior syndrome, first administer diaphoretic medicines such as Shougong Xuanhei San (First Merit Black Powder), Duoming Dan, or Chansu Wan (Toad Venom Pill), selecting one appropriate formula. Subsequently, administer Guangxiao Baoming Gao or detoxifying cooling agents for purgation. If the pulse indicates an interior syndrome, only administer Yanshou Jishi Gao or Pogu Dan (Soul-Breaking Pill) for purgation. This is because interior syndromes do not require diaphoresis. For sores or ulcers with heads, apply one pill of Zhusha Beijigao, sized like a soybean, directly onto the sore head, and cover it with a soft adhesive plaster. The sore will inevitably rupture. If the surrounding erythema is purple-black, apply Xuandu San around the perimeter to contain the toxin; if the erythema is red, apply Shui Cheng Gao. On the second day, use Jinjun Biyun Dingzi (Tight and Severe Azure Cloud Ingot) to open the wound, followed by Jinbian Bixia Dingzi (Tight and Mild Azure Radiance Ingot) to remove necrotic tissue. Once slightly clean, use Manwan Biyu Dingzi (Slow and Gentle Jade Green Ingot) to promote flesh regeneration. These are collectively called Qingjin Dingzi (Blue Gold Ingots). Do not limit the number of days; continue until all necrotic tissue is removed, then apply plaster alone. After the pus and exudate are exhausted and the muscle surface is flat, apply medicines that generate flesh and close the wound. Following this method avoids the suffering caused by knives, scissors, needles, and cautery. For sores without heads, wait until suppuration occurs, puncture with a needle, and then follow the above method for resolution. Upon detailed examination, I find that although there is a sequence in using these medicines and ingots after diaphoresis or for initial suppurative ulcers, patients may have accumulated heat or wind-toxin stagnation. Waiting for the sequential opening of the ulcer or waiting for suppuration in non-suppurative swelling before applying treatment is less flexible and rapid than the methods of Dongyuan (Li Gao). If the ulcer has ruptured with bleeding, formed necrotic tissue, or if the ding ulcer is hard, external treatments should be applied sequentially.
