"Chun" (蠢) means movement; "Qian" (潜) means lurking or hiding.
The whole scorpion (Quanxie, *Scorpio*) is toxic and must have its toxicity removed before use. It can unblock deafness and treat various wind-induced convulsions and spasms. Banmao (斑蝥, *Mylabris*) should be stir-fried until cooked and not used raw. It promotes urination to eliminate edema, induces abortion, and dissipates scrofula sores.
For Quanxie (*Scorpio*), the tight and small ones are superior. The flavor is sweet and acrid, and it must be detoxified before use. For Banmao (*Mylabris*), remove the legs and wings, stir-fry with rice until the rice turns yellow, then discard the rice. If used raw, it causes vomiting and diarrhea. Its flavor is acrid and cold, with high toxicity.
To eliminate water qi (fluid retention) and goiters, nothing surpasses Haige (海蛤, *Concha Arcae*). To calm the mind and grind away visual obstructions, nothing brings greater joy than Zhenzhu (珍珠, *Pearl*).
Haige (*Concha Arcae*) has a bitter and salty flavor, is neutral in nature, and non-toxic. It treats edema, eliminates cough and counterflow qi, calms asthma, and relieves restlessness. Zhenzhu (*Pearl*) is cold in nature and non-toxic, originating from Lianzhou. It primarily moistens the skin and enhances complexion. Wrapped in cotton and inserted into the ear, it can treat deafness.
Shuizhi (水蛭, *Hirudo*) treats carbuncles and sores, unblocks meridians, and breaks blood stasis. Tianluo (田螺, *Cipangopaludina chinensis*) clears heat from the eyes and can remedy regurgitation.
Shuizhi (*Hirudo*), also known as Mahuangqi, lives in water as Shuizhi, in grass as Caozhi, and in mud as Nizhi. It attaches to humans and cattle/horses' thighs and calves to suck blood. For medicinal use, smaller Shuizhi are preferred. This creature is extremely difficult to kill; even after roasting for years, it revives upon contact with water. It must be stir-fried until thoroughly yellow and cooked; otherwise, if ingested, it may lay eggs inside the body causing harm. Tianluo (*Cipangopaludina chinensis*) is greatly cold and non-toxic. It should not be eaten in excess. Its meat applied externally treats hot sores; its shell treats regurgitation; its juice awakens from drunkenness and quenches thirst. Those taken from fields are best.
Shufu (鼠妇, *Porcellio*) unblocks amenorrhea and promotes urination for strangury. Zhang Zhongjing used it to treat chronic malaria. Mengchong (虻虫, *Tabanus*) breaks hard masses and grinds away blood accumulations; it is indispensable in formulas for Shanghan (Cold Damage).

Its blood resembles ink; it absorbs wave-mist to muddy the water for self-defense. It has eight legs clustered around its mouth, floating on the water surface. Chanshanjia (*Manis pentadactyla*) is cool in nature and toxic. It treats evil fright and bi-syndrome.
Tidal fever and bone-steaming heat specifically use Biejia (鳖甲, *Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum*). Rectal prolapse and fox odor still utilize Zhizhu (蜘蛛, *Araneus* / Spider).
