Dongteng (Winter Vine), Hongya Daji (Red-toothed Euphorbia Root), Yuanhua (Genkwa Flower), Bai Choutou (Head of White Morning Glory Seed), Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice Root), Mutong (Akebia Stem), Wubeizi (Gallnut), Zhuling (Poria), Zexie (Alisma Rhizome), Cheqianzi (Plantago Seed), Gualouren (Trichosanthes Seed), Zhaojiao (Tamarind Fruit), Shijueming (Abalone Shell), Mugeren (Momordica Seed), Bimaren (Castor Bean Seed), Baishao (White Peony Root), Sheng Shanjiya (Unprocessed Pangolin Scale), Bai Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus), Chantui (Cicada Slough), Quanxie (Scorpion), Xijiaopian (Rhinoceros Horn Slice) [each 1 liang]; Lingyangjiao (Antelope Horn), Fatuan (Hair Ball) [each 2 liang]; Xihonghua (Saffron), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Guangui (Cinnamon Twig), Shetui (Snake Slough), Chuanwu (Chuanwu Rhizome), Baifuzi (Typhonium Rhizome) [each 5 qian]; Fei Huashi (Calcined Talcum) [4 liang]; Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger, with skin).
Root and leaf herbs: Baixianxiancao (Impatiens balsamina, using stem, flower, seed, and leaf entirely, one plant each, 2 jin per herb); Can'ercao (Xanthium Herb, whole); Yimucao (Leonurus Herb, whole); Machixian (Portulaca Oleracea, whole); Zhugecai (Brassica rapa var. parachinensis, whole); Zihuadiding (Viola yedoensis, whole, i.e., Xiaoji); Bajiaoye (Banana Leaf; if unavailable, use Dong Sangye/Winter Mulberry Leaf); Zhuye (Bamboo Leaf); Taozhi (Peach Twig, with leaves); Furongye (Hibiscus Leaf) [each 8 liang]; Cebaiye (Platycladus Orientalis Leaf); Jiejie Changpu (Acorus Tatarinowii Rhizome) [each 2 liang]. All the above herbs should be fresh. If preparing this formula in summer or autumn, for those that are dried—such as Yimucao, Zihuadiding, Furongye, and Baixianxiancao—use 4.5 liang for every 1 jin of dried herb, or 2 liang for every 0.5 jin of dried herb.
Total Sesame Oil (Small Mill): 35 jin. (Rule: For every 1 jin of dried herb, use 3 jin of oil; for every 1 jin of fresh herb, use slightly more than 1 jin of oil). Boil the herbs in batches until they turn brown and brittle, then remove the dregs. Continue boiling the oil again until it is mature (the oil should be well-cooked). Add Dan (Lead Oxide) in batches, avoiding excessive heat to prevent splashing (Use 7 liang of calcined Dan for every 1 jin of refined oil). Then add Qianfen (Lead Carbonate, calcined, 1 jin), Xionghuang (Realgar), Mingfan (Alum), Baipengsha (White Borax), Piao Qingdai (Washed Indigo Naturalis), Zhen Qingfen (Calomel), Ruxiang (Frankincense), Moyao (Myrrh) [each 1 liang], Sheng Shigao (Raw Gypsum Fibrosum) [8 liang], Niu jiao (Ox Hoof Glue, 4 liang, steamed and melted with wine). After the Dan has been incorporated into the oil, stir until warm. Test a drop: if it does not bubble, add the glue. Stir over a thousand times to ensure uniformity; the more stirring, the better. Do not burn it; if it forms beads, efficacy decreases and adhesion is lost. All plasters follow this boiling method. If there is insufficient oil, add 2-3 jin as appropriate.
