(This prescription was formerly known as Li Ji Gao, also called Wen Shen Gu Zhen Gao. It specifically tonifies the Fire of the Mingmen (Gate of Vitality), controls Water to generate Earth, and has more astringent and tonifying effects than San Yin Gao. It can be used as Nuan Qi Gao (Navel-Warming Plaster) and may be used in conjunction with Wen Fei Gao (Lung-Warming Plaster), Wen Wei Gao (Stomach-Warming Plaster), and Jian Pi Gao (Spleen-Strengthening Plaster). For cold sha (cold pathogenic factor causing spasms), apply the herbal powder mentioned in the text to the navel. It is contraindicated for youths with excessive internal fire.)
Indications: Deficiency and exhaustion of Yuan Yang (Primal Yang):
If Spleen Cold causes loose stools, diarrhea, edema, and abdominal distension: Apply opposite the navel (to the corresponding point on the abdomen) and use in conjunction with Jian Pi Gao.
If Kidney Qi deficiency and cold cause heaviness and pain in the lower back and spine: Apply to the lumbar and spinal region.
Frequent coldness in the abdomen, navel, legs, and feet: Apply to the navel and knees.
If Kidney Qi failure leads to impotence and cold seminal fluid: Apply below the navel.
Nocturnal emission or spermatorrhea occurring upon slight stimulation: Apply to the point opposite the navel and below the navel.
Frequent nocturia due to Qi deficiency causing the Bladder's inability to store urine; in severe cases, cold bladder and involuntary urination occur (due to Water deficiency and Fire excess leading to constipation/incontinence of both bowels and urine, or Fire deficiency and Fire excess leading to incontinence): Also applicable to the point opposite the navel and below the navel.
Cold Lin syndrome (painful urinary dysfunction due to cold): Apply below the navel after chills.
Cold Han syndrome (abdominal pain due to cold-dampness, where the scrotum feels cold as ice): Apply below the navel and use in conjunction with San Yin Gao.
Symptoms of loss of Jing (Essence) and Shen (Spirit): Pale complexion lacking luster, sorrowful mood resembling weeping: Apply to the chest, back, navel, and the point opposite the navel.
○ Uterine cold in women: The uterus is the residence of the Bao Gong (Womb), which is the Dantian (Elixir Field), and also where the Blood Sea and menstrual blood accumulate before overflowing. Located three cun below the navel. If the womb is cold, infertility results. This plaster should be applied here.
Profuse metrorrhagia (heavy bleeding) not stopping, accompanied by cold body, faint breath, and impending collapse of Yang: Apply to the chest, back, navel, point opposite the navel, and below the navel. Do not apply to all sites unless it is a critical condition.
Deficiency-cold of the Chong and Ren meridians, presenting with pure white leukorrhea.
Chronic leukorrhea with cold pain in the navel and abdomen, feeling as if sitting in ice and snow from the waist down, with decline of True Qi in the Three Yang meridians: Apply to the waist, navel, and below the navel.
○ Slow Spleen Wind in children (due to chronic diarrhea causing deficiency-cold): Apply opposite the navel and use in conjunction with Jian Pi Gao.
○ Heart (Fire position), Navel (generated by Fire), Point opposite the navel (origin of Mingmen Fire generation), Below the navel (Fire within Water, origin of Qi generation).
