Throat Moth (a disease characterized by redness and swelling of the throat resembling silkworm moths): Take 3-4 roots of Achyranthes bidentata (also known as Drum-beating Grass), crush them to extract juice, mix evenly with human milk. For left-sided Throat Moth, drip into the right nostril; for right-sided, drip into the left nostril; for bilateral Throat Moth, drip into both nostrils. Spit out phlegm and saliva, and the toxicity will be immediately resolved. For severe cases, drip two or three times.
Another prescription: Crush Achyranthes bidentata, soak in vinegar to extract juice, and rinse the mouth frequently. For severe cases, drip into the nostrils. For those with excessive phlegm and saliva, grind Alumen (White Vitriol) into fine powder, make pills with rice flour, and take one qian per dose.
Another prescription: Decoct seven fresh flowers of Chrysanthemum morifolium and use the liquid to rinse the mouth.
Another prescription: Take one gallbladder of a grass carp, insert seven grains of glutinous rice inside, hang it in a shaded place away from sunlight for forty-nine days, then collect it. Use one pill for unilateral Throat Moth, two pills for bilateral Throat Moth, hold under the tongue until dissolved and swallowed.
Another prescription: Take an unspecified amount of large centipedes, two white salted plums, and one fen of borneol. Crush and form pills the size of longan seeds. Hold in the mouth until dissolved and swallow the juice.
Another prescription: Extract juice from fresh mugwort leaves, mix with child's urine, and drink.
Another prescription: Use the brine from pickled white plums, mix with green vitriol, and apply to the affected area.
Another prescription: Smoke the affected area with liquor distilled in a bottle containing Cnidium monnieri seeds.
Another prescription: Start by stroking upwards from both arms to the radial pulse at the wrist, then stroke the middle finger. Observe if purple veins appear on the lower segment of the middle finger; once visible, puncture with a needle to release purple blood, after which eating can resume.
Another prescription: Take a small jar of white salted plums, add one hundred to one hundred large centipedes, and let them sit for a long time. When this condition occurs, take the plum flesh, grind it, and blow it into the throat. Applying plum flesh to malignant boils in children is also effective.
Another prescription: Take one male goose, press its beak against the patient's mouth, allowing the "goose qi" to naturally dissipate the illness.
Milk Moth (tonsillitis etc.) in critical condition: Wash the root of Houttuynia cordata (Yuzhu flower root), remove hairs, crush it, add a little white honey, mix evenly, extract the juice, and force-feed three tea spoons. Avoid contact with iron objects.
Unilateral/Bilateral Throat Moth: Take one snake gourd that has passed through frost. Remove the lid with a bamboo knife, scoop out the pulp completely. Fill with one liang each of saltpeter (Fire Saltpeter) and alum (Bright Alum). Replace the lid, secure tightly with bamboo pins, and hang in a windy, shaded place. Wait for white frost to form on the outside of the gourd, sweep it down, add a little borneol, and store in a sealed container. Apply a small amount to the affected area each time, and it will naturally dissipate.
For diffuse swelling of Throat Moth, it is necessary to puncture to release evil blood before liquids can be swallowed. This method can replace knives and needles. Bake the nest of Yang La Zi insects found on poplar trees, grind into fine powder, dip a bone hairpin into the powder, and apply to the moth. The blister will immediately burst, and pus and blood will drain, allowing food intake. However, apply only to the blister, avoid other areas, and do not use excessively.
Another prescription (provided by Hu Xuehai): Place one large spider in a silver pot. Add three qian of calcined alum and one fen of borneol. Grind finely and blow into the throat. Do not swallow the toxic fluid.
Another prescription: Remove the white web of spiders from walls. Wrap the web tightly with one hair from the back of the patient's neck. Pierce with a silver hairpin and burn over a lamp until the medicinal property is preserved (carbonized but not ashed). Grind into powder and blow into the throat.
Milk Moth is an acute condition; this prescription is very effective. Those with means should prepare it in advance to save lives (provided by Zhou Hexian). On the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month, take one gallbladder from a male pig. Fill it with alum powder, dry in shade, grind into powder, and put it back into the pig gallbladder from the same date. Repeat this process three or four times. For patients, blow one or two fen into the throat. It is miraculous.
Unilateral/Bilateral Throat Moth, throat xeroderma, throat carbuncle with swelling and pain, inability to vomit or swallow, life hanging in the balance (provided by Zhou Hexian).
Phoenix Feather (lightly roasted over fire), Olive Pit (heated on tile until medicinal property is preserved), Child's Tea (equal parts). Grind into fine powder. For every qian of powder, add five li of real borneol. Blow into the throat to enable eating; extremely effective.
Throat Moth: Platycodon Root (four qian), Licorice Root (one qian), Golden Coin Toad (Sanqian Jinjia), Burdock Fruit (each three qian), Scrophularia Root (two qian). Decoct in two sheng of water until one sheng remains. Take after meals for immediate cure.
Throat Moth combined treatment for oral ulcers (from the Secret Recipe of Mr. Ruan): Fir Bark (preserved property), Human Urine Deposit, Powdered Child's Tea (each three qian), Pearl, Amber, Calamine, Indigo Naturalis (each one qian), Large Borneol (six fen). Grind uniformly, store, and blow into the throat. For treating throat ulcers, throat moths, and dental ulcers, blow up to one qian for immediate resolution. Before blowing, rinse the mouth thoroughly with a decoction of Coptis Rhizome, Licorice Root, Perilla Mint, and Pine Moss Tea (one qian each). For throat moths, cut a goose feather tube into strips like chrysanthemum petals, clamp onto the tip of a split chopstick, puncture the affected area to bleed, then blow the medicine. Check behind the ears on both sides; if red veins are present, puncture with a needle to release blood for immediate cure.
Unilateral/Bilateral Throat Moth: Saltpeter (one qian five fen), Borax (five fen), Borneol (three li), Realgar (one fen, optional). Grind together until extremely fine. Use three spoons each time, blow into the throat to induce spitting of saliva, or blow into the nostrils.
Another prescription: Crush the seeds of Impatiens balsamina with roots, extract juice, and swallow. Miraculous effect.
Another prescription: Human fingernails (unspecified amount), Alum (three qian), one large spider. Put all into a silver pot, grind together, add one fen of borneol, and blow into the throat.
Milk Moth and Sore Throat: Toad Venom, Aconite Tip, Pig Tooth Soap Pod (equal parts). Grind finely, make water pills the size of beans. Take one pill to apply to the affected area each time.
Milk Moth: Take hair from the crown of the head, rub with fresh ginger until red, then apply.
Watermelon Frost: Treats throat and dental bilateral moth and sore throat where life is in danger. Take a clay mortar made with rhubarb mud. Place a watermelon loosely inside the mortar according to its size. Cut off the top of the melon as a lid. Fill the melon with mirabilite (Glauber's salt). Replace the lid, secure with bamboo pins. Cover with another identical clay mortar. Seal the seams with mud mixed with leather strips. Leave in a shady place for several days. White frost will form on the outside of the outer mortar. Sweep it down with a goose feather and store. Keep the mortar in a shady place to produce more frost, sweeping repeatedly until no more frost forms. Store properly. Use a small amount to blow into the throat each time.
Throat Moth: Croton Seed (oil removed), Asarum (each half fen). Grind finely. Wrap in cotton. For left moth, plug the right nostril; for right moth, plug the left nostril.
Throat Moth, Sore Throat, Wind in Throat, and also treat Carbuncles and Boils on the Back: Wulong Gua (dried leaves of Baihua Cai/Brassica rapa var. parachinensis). Take one qian of fine powder, add three to five li of borneol, grind uniformly, and blow into the throat. For carbuncles and boils on the back, crush the leaves and apply externally for immediate resolution.
