Empirical Formula: Apply green moss (Qingtai) to the affected area by rubbing. Internally, administer Baidu San (Poison-Resolving Powder) with an additional three qian of Qingtai, decocted in water for oral administration.
Another Prescription: Boil ash from mulberry wood branches in water, filter the concentrated juice, mix with powder of alum (Bai Fan), and apply topically.
Another Prescription: Pour clear water onto a wall, collect the runoff, and pour it over the bite wound; this yields miraculous effects.
Chen Jiamo stated: Scorpions exist in male and female varieties. A male scorpion sting causes pain localized to one spot, whereas a female scorpion sting causes pain radiating throughout the body. Only upon hearing the crowing of a rooster does the pain gradually subside. Books state: When encountering any venomous creature capable of stinging or biting, one must not harbor ill will towards them, nor kill them. If such malicious intent arises, one will inevitably be stung later, and the injury will be difficult to cure. Exercise extreme caution.
The *Waitai Mi Yao* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold for Emergencies) records: "I personally suffered a scorpion sting on my finger, enduring unbearable pain. Various prescriptions failed to work. Someone observed my condition and advised me to soak my finger in cold water. As long as the finger remained painless during soaking, the pain ceased; once the water warmed slightly and pain returned, I replaced it with fresh cold water. Alternatively, soaking an old cloth in cold water and applying it yielded remarkable efficacy."
Wu Tianlin stated: In cases of snake, scorpion, or centipede bites, despite the pain, one should not cry out in agony. Instead, laughing heartily several times can reduce the pain by seventy percent. This is because after being bitten, venomous creatures are pleased by human cries, causing centipedes and scorpions to wag their tails; each movement exacerbates the stabbing pain. However, hearing laughter frightens them to death. I, Gu Cheng, was repeatedly stung by scorpions and managed to laugh loudly; indeed, the pain was significantly alleviated. This is also a clever method that one should know.
Empirical Formula: Apply urine (Fenqing); the pain stops immediately.
Another Prescription: Take a strip of animal glue (Shuijiao), moisten it with water, heat it until hot over a fire, and rub it on the injured area.
Another Prescription: Roll paper tightly, ignite it, and fumigate the wound with the smoke.
Another Prescription: Mix equal parts of alum (Bai Fan) and pinellia ternata (Banxia), grind into powder, and apply with vinegar paste.
Another Prescription (from *Qixuan*): Dip a wick made of blue cloth in sesame oil, ignite it, insert it into a pen tube, place it firmly over the painful spot, and fumigate with smoke; pain ceases shortly thereafter.
Another Prescription: Apply mud from the bottom of a well to the sting site; reapply when dry.
Another Prescription (from *Gujin Luyan*): Simply cover the affected area with a wooden bowl; healing occurs.
Another Prescription: Use freshly drawn well water to wet a blue cloth and apply it to the painful area; replace when dry.
For male scorpion stings causing localized pain: Apply well mud; reapply when dry.
For female scorpion stings causing radiating pain: Apply mud from under roof tiles. On sunny days, draw fresh well water from the roof, collect the runoff mud, and apply it.
Scorpion Sting Formula: Purified saltpeter (Jing Guanniao) and refined realgar (Ming Xiong), each 1.2 qian; musk (Shexiang), 0.12 lian. Grind into fine powder, store tightly in a porcelain bottle. For use, take a small amount and apply to the outer canthus of the left eye in males or the right eye in females; pain ceases upon smelling the aroma.
Another Prescription: Mash one large snail and apply the paste; pain stops immediately.
Liangjiang Gao (Galangal Ointment): Treats toxic sores and bites/stings from scorpions and other harmful insects. Galangal root (Gaoliangjiang) and pangolin scales (Chuanshanjia), each 6 liang. Pure sesame oil (Zhen Mayou), 2 jin. Soak for seven days, boil until the herbs are charred, strain, add 1 jin of calcined red lead (Chao Huangdan) to form the ointment, spread, and apply as a plaster.
Scorpion Sting and Centipede Bite: On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, prepare beforehand by dissolving 1 liang of animal glue (Shuijiao) and 1 liang of frankincense (Ruxiang) in warm water. Spread evenly on paper, cut into small strips. For use, moisten a strip with water and apply to the wound; pain stops instantly.
