When a snake enters the mouth during sleep and cannot be pulled out, first pierce the snake's tail horizontally with a sharp awl, then cut open the tail with a knife, insert several grains of *Sichuan Pepper* (Chuanjiao), tie it tightly, and the snake will naturally withdraw.
Verification method: Burning *Antelope Horn* (Lingyangjiao) until smoke emerges will cause the snake to leave.
Another prescription: Burn *Realgar* (Xionghuang) to dispel the snake.
Another prescription: Mix equal parts of *Dried Ginger* (Ganjiang), *Musk* (Shexiang), and *Realgar* (Xionghuang), grind them evenly, place them in a small crimson bag, worn on the left side for men and the right side for women, which will keep snakes at a distance. If bitten by a snake, apply this mixture; if Musk is unavailable, mix with *Aconitum carmichaelii root lateral preparations* (Shewang) and wear it.
Chen Yuan Gong stated: Those injured by mad dogs will inevitably develop mania, resembling a manic syndrome. The common belief that a puppy grows in the abdomen is a misconception. Since the symptoms resemble madness and dog-like behavior, biting people and harassing women, it is not due to a dog growing in the belly. Furthermore, after being bitten by a mad dog, the patient's urination and defecation would necessarily be blocked, straining as if in difficult labor, accompanied by acute pain and abdominal distension leading to death. People mistakenly believe death results from an inability to deliver a dog from the abdomen, attributing back pain to the dog biting inside, which is absurd. This condition occurs because a dog, having ingested toxic substances, becomes mad and bites humans, transmitting the toxin. It is a terrifying condition where the dog survives while the human dies. However, with proper treatment, the toxin can be resolved and the illness cured swiftly. Dogs have a hot nature; their madness stems from consuming hot-natured foods, dead animals, or corpses of those who died from febrile diseases, leading to madness. Thus, canine madness involves heat adding to heat. Resolving the heat-toxin should lead to recovery. The reason for failure is simply ignorance of the cure. I encountered a unique prescription named "Life-Saving Immortal Elixir": Slice three *Momordica cochinchinensis seeds* (Mubiezi), stir-fry seven *Mylabris* (Banmao) with aged earth, removing heads and feet, stir-fry a pinch of rice, use five qian each of *Herba Viticis negundo* (Liujinu), *Rhubarb* (Dahuang), and *Poria* (Fuling), and one fen of *Musk* (Shexiang). Grind all into fine powder, mix well. Take three qian per dose, mixed with yellow wine. This fully resolves the toxin and is a miraculous formula. Effect can be seen within seven days without needing two doses; for cases lasting longer than seven days, administer multiple times. Avoid sexual activity for two months and avoid "fa-wu" (stimulating foods); there are no other restrictions. (From *Bingjian*. This formula uses *Momordica cochinchinensis seeds* and *Mylabris* because dogs fear these substances most. *Momordica cochinchinensis seeds* are cold and clear heat-toxins; combined with the rapid cleansing action of *Rhubarb*, heat-toxins cannot linger. *Herba Viticis negundo* promotes blood circulation and opens orifices; *Poria* promotes diuresis, guiding toxins out through urine; *Musk* also opens orifices. Its purpose here is merely to moderate the toxicity of *Mylabris* and *Momordica cochinchinensis seeds*. Why fear mad dog bites?) When bitten by a dog, immediate symptoms include irritability, dry mouth, and dysuria. A few red hairs may appear on the vertex; pluck them urgently. For mild cases, grind one qian five fen each of *Arisaema cum Bile* (Tiannanxing) and *Saposhnikovia Root* (Fangfeng), mix with wine, and take orally. For severe cases, use five *Mylabris* (Banmao), removing heads, tails, wings, and feet, stir-fry with a small amount of glutinous rice until yellow, remove rice, grind *Mylabris* into powder, decoct in one cup of wine until half remains, and take warm on an empty stomach. Toxic matter resembling a small dog shape will be excreted via urine. Continue until urine is clear and white, indicating complete detoxification. If toxins remain, repeat the dose. For mild bite wounds, chew chestnut or *Perilla Leaf* (Zisuye) and apply topically. For severe wounds, apply fresh hot feces from a male, changing when cooled. Once the major symptoms stabilize, burn human feces to ash, mix with sesame oil, and apply.
Gu Cheng stated: Mad dogs lie exposed day and night, invaded by abnormal qi of the four seasons and influenced by the killing qi of yin and yang. Consequently, they protrude their tongues, drool saliva, lower their heads, droop their ears, have red eyes, drag their tails, run erratically, and this is most common in late spring and early summer. Humans bitten by them immediately suffer irritability, dry mouth, and painful dysuria, making them extremely difficult to save.
