Damp-heat in the three Yin meridians of the foot (Liver, Spleen, Kidney) causes swelling and redness of the legs and feet, with skin breakdown and exudation of serous fluid. The condition resembles Xuefeng Chuang (Blood Wind Sores, a dermatological condition characterized by itching and oozing), spreading incessantly with severe itching and pain. It should be treated with Huanglian Gao (Coptis Ointment).
Huanglian Gao: Treats damp-heat causing skin erosion. First, boil one jin (approx. 500g) of Tung Oil (Verniciae Folii Oleum) in a pot until white bubbles appear. Add one liang and five qian (approx. 62.5g) of Beeswax (Zhuxi La) and melt it. Then, mix in one jin of finely ground, stir-fried black Rhubarb powder (Dahuang Mo). Stir evenly, add two fen of Borneol (Bingpian), and apply externally as a plaster.
Another prescription: Mash Banzhilian (Scutellaria Barbata Herb) and apply it to the affected area.
Long-distance walking or running is often caused by bandages being loose or uneven, or by sweat causing shoe nails or sock soles to wrinkle and loosen, or by shoes that are too tight or ill-fitting squeezing the feet. All these factors can cause blisters. In some cases, healthy flesh is injured, leading to suppuration, ulceration, and pain.
It is also said: For those traveling long distances, re-wrapping the foot bandages after walking more than ten li prevents blister formation.
Another prescription: Mash Fan Zhan (Sticky Rice) and apply it externally. Cover with paper; it will heal flat overnight.
Another prescription: Mix Bai Mian (Wheat Flour) with water and apply externally.
When people walk long distances urgently and have stones pressing against their soles, causing swelling that prevents walking and unbearable pain, this is called Jiao Dian (Foot Callus/Corn) (from *Huaidetang Milu*). For emergency treatment, soak old straw shoes in a urine bucket overnight. Heat a new brick until red-hot. Place the wet straw shoe on the hot brick, then step the swollen foot onto the hot brick. The heat forces the urine vapor into the tissue, reducing the swelling immediately. If not treated early, it may ulcerate and become difficult to heal. This method also instantly relieves foot swelling and pain caused by long-distance walking.
For foot pain in the sole due to prolonged walking or standing, use this single prescription: Mix Earthworm Excrement (Qiu Yin Shi) with water and apply externally; it heals in one night.
To stop Foot Sweat:
Bai Fan (Alumen) and Gan Ge (Puerariae Radix) (each five qian).
Decoct in water and wash continuously for five days; the sweat will stop naturally.
Sangxing Tang (Mulberry Leaf and Apricot Seed Decoction):
Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex) (eight qian), Poxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Ruxiang (Olibanum), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) (each two qian).
Use five large bowls of water. First decoct Sangbaipi and Xingren until reduced to three bowls. Then add Ruxiang and Poxiao, seal the container, and allow them to dissolve completely. Fumigate first, then wash. This reduces the size of the foot and makes it soft as cotton.
Another prescription:
Mingfan (Alumen) (one liang), Weilingxian (Syneilesis Acaulis Herb), Chuanjiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium), Fengxianhua (Impatiens Balsamina Flower), Yuzanhua (Hemerocallis Citrina Flower) (each three qian), Pixiao (Natrii Sulfas).
Decoct in water for one shichen (two hours). Fumigate first, then wash.
