Jiaju (Onychocryptosis with paronychia and suppuration) accompanied by granulation tissue hyperplasia, pus and blood discharge, and pain: Use dense oyster shell (Concha Ostreae), raw and ground into fine powder. Take two qian per dose, add a small amount of Qingdian (Indigo Naturalis), and take with wine.
Another prescription: Wash the affected area by scalding with salt water.
Qianjia (Ingrown toenail) penetrating into the flesh, forming a carbuncle and spreading ulceration. (From *Waitai Miyao*)
Lüfan (Chalcanthite/Ferrous Sulfate) (five liang, calcined until the liquid is exhausted, ground into powder, color resembling Huangdan [Lead Oxide], stored for use).
Each time, wash and wipe the affected area with salt water first, apply the powder thickly to the lesion, wrap it with soft silk gauze. The exudation will stop and the wound will dry on the same day. Use only once daily. Wash clean with salt water; no need to apply medicine to areas where scabs have dried. If white pus appears, break it open and apply medicine; it will heal spontaneously.
Huatuo Lvxiao San (Hua Tuo's Frequently Effective Powder)
Ganlanhe (Olive Pit) (three pieces, charred but retaining nature) Huangdan (Lead Oxide) (three fen) Sha [likely Ren/Amomum] Ruxiang (Frankincense) (each one qian) Qingfen (Calomel/Mercurous Chloride) (five fen).
Grind into fine powder. Mix with sesame oil and rub onto the affected area.
Niu Chengjian (A foot condition characterized by hard, calloused skin, often associated with infection or ingrown nails, similar to corns or severe calluses with secondary infection)
Chen Shigong stated: Niu Chengjian arises from long-distance walking, followed by immersing hot feet in water and exposure to wind. This leads to qi stagnation and blood depletion, resulting in the formation of stubborn, hard skin and flesh. Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi) fail to nourish the area, gradually causing swelling and pain. The swelling protrudes high, making walking difficult. Over time, it may rupture, with pus and fluid flowing out. Wash daily with warm water and apply Niujiao San (Buffalo Horn Powder). In cases where internal pus accumulates and the skin is too tough to penetrate, use a large thread needle to puncture the top to drain the pus, providing relief. Cut away any raised, broken hard skin; if new flesh does not grow, apply Yuhong Gao (Jade Red Ointment). If the wound bed is full but lacks skin regeneration, sprinkle Shengji San (Flesh-Generating Powder). (From *Zhengzong* / *Yizong Jinjian - Waike Zhengzong*)
*Xinfa* (Essentials of Medical Formulas) states: Niu Chengjian occurs on the heel and the sole of the foot. It presents as stubborn, hard, swollen, and elevated tissue, raised like a ridge, yellow in color, causing pain that prevents walking. This is caused by hot feet contacting cold water or cold pathogens invading the blood vessels, leading to qi stagnation and blood coagulation. In the early stage, moxibustion or cauterization should be used to eliminate it. Later, it may rupture with pus and fluid discharge. Wash daily with rice washing water and apply Niujiao San. Trim away any floating, hard skin around the perimeter and replace with Yuhong Gao. Use Zhenzhu Shengji (Pearl Flesh-Generating) agents to close the wound. (From *Jinjian* / *Yizong Jinjian*)
