Seven-Ingredient Huoming Decoction (from *Mei Mi*): Applicable to all types of carbuncles and sores where the patient's Qi and Blood are extremely depleted, presenting with white, collapsed, and sinking lesions; immediate administration will restore redness and vitality.
Sheng Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (each 3 qian); Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), Gongyinghua (Taraxaci Herba) (each 1 liang); Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (8 qian); Zhi Chuanshanjia (Manis Squama, roasted), Zaogaozhen (Gleditsiae Spina) (each 1.5 qian).
Prepare as one dose, add three jin of water, decoct in a clay pot until half remains. Take hot, avoid wind to induce sweating, and rest quietly until spontaneous rupture occurs.
Tounong San (from *Zhengzong*): A rapid method for draining pus from ruptured lesion peaks.
Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (each 5 qian); Sheng Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (4 qian); Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Chuanshanjia (Manis Squama), Zaogen (Gleditsiae Spina) (each 1 qian).
Decoct with wine and water together and take orally. The wound area should be covered to keep warm.
Gualou Tuoli Tang (from *Zhengzong*): Suitable for swelling and pain caused by falls and injuries, lingering lesions about to rupture; or sores resulting from Qi and Blood stagnation, phlegm retention, and blood congestion. It promotes resolution of unformed sores and spontaneous rupture of formed sores, while generating flesh and detoxifying.
Gualou (Trichosanthis Fructus) (one fruit); Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos) (1 liang); Sumu (Sappan Lignum) (5 qian); Xiangru (Frankincense, de-oiled), Gancao Jie (Licorice Root Nodes), Moyao (Myrrh, de-oiled) (each 2 qian).
Prepare as one dose, decoct with wine, divide into three doses, and consume within one day. Roast the dregs, grind into powder, make pills the size of bullet seeds using rice paste and wine, and administer with Danggui wine.
Huiyang Sanjian Tang (from *Zhengzong*): Indicated for Yin-type carbuncles and back sores. Initially characterized by absence of pain, swelling, heat, or redness; hardness like cowhide or stubborn stone. After ten days, symptoms include fine pulse, cold body, limb fatigue, skin resembling turtle shell, color similar to earthy cinnabar, multiple pores on the peak bleeding, flat and scattered root base, soft depression without pus, non-putrefying skin, and hot hands with cold feet. Urgent administration is required.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Shu Fuzi (Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Bai Fuling (Poria), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gouqizi (Lycii Fructus), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Shanyurou (Corni Fructus), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (each 1 qian); Guang Muxiang (Costi Radix), Zicao (Sanhaluo Root), Mao Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Xian Honghua (Carthami Flos, fresh), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, roasted) (each 0.5 qian).
Add three slices of Wei Jiang (Roasted Ginger) and 2 qian of Bai Pi (white bark) from the soap locust tree root. Add two bowls of water, decoct to 0.8 bowl, add one cup of wine. Administer before or after meals depending on the lesion's location (upper or lower). Cover the wound with cotton cloth to maintain warmth. Crucially, do not open the wound excessively initially to prevent leakage of Yuan Qi. (Commentary by Gu Shicheng: Back sores of the Yin type arise from prior damage to the Zang-Fu organs, preventing internal toxins from venting outward. Emergency rescue is necessary; delay renders treatment futile.)
Sanhan Jiuyin Zhisheng Dan (by Master Qi Tian):
Sheng Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos) (each 3 liang); Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (1 liang); Baijiezi (Brassicae Semens Albus) (2 qian); Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (3 qian).
Decoct with water and take. Two doses are sufficient for cure; excessive dosage is unnecessary.
Niu Jiao Yin: Used to intercept severe carbuncles and malignant sores in critical areas, preventing toxin invasion internally and transmission to severe syndromes.
Use 4 liang of high-quality Niu Jiao (Bovini Cornu Colla). Dissolve in one bowl of wine via double-boiling, stir well, and pour out. Soak again in wine and drink at will until sweating occurs. For those who can drink alcohol, intoxication is the limit. This method has saved many lives.
Yuanzhi Jiu (Family of Physician Han, widely used to save people): Applicable to all carbuncles, back sores, and malignant poisons. If dead blood and Yin toxin reside inside, there is no pain; internal/external use induces pain. If sorrow/anger causes Qi stagnation attacking internally, pain is unbearable to touch; internal/external use alleviates pain. If heat accumulates internally causing high fever intolerable to touch, internal/external use brings coolness. If Qi deficiency and cold blood cause non-healing ulcers, or Seven Emotions cause internal depression, it is effective regardless of excess or deficiency. Prepare Yuanzhi by soaking in rice water, removing the heart, grinding finely, and storing in honey. Mix 3 qian of medicine with one cup of wine, let settle, drink the clear liquid, and apply dregs topically.
Neituo Rongwei Tang:
Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (5 qian); Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Honghua (Carthami Flos) (each 2 qian); Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) (each 1 qian); Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (1.5 qian); Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) (0.8 fen).
Cut herbs, divide into two doses. Decoct each with two cups of wine and water to 0.8 cup. Take warm.
Er Xian San (by Huang Binjiang): For back sores and carbuncles, whether unformed, formed, ruptured, or unruptured, when pain is unbearable.
Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (1 liang if unruptured, 5 qian if ruptured); Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus) (5 qian if unruptured, 1 liang if ruptured).
Prepare as one dose, decoct with water and wine, and take orally.
Hupo La Fan Wan (from *Zhengzong*): For carbuncles and sores that have formed but not yet ruptured, to prevent toxin from entering internally. Pre-administration protects the Heart and membranes, disperses blood, and detoxifies.
Sheng Mingfan (Alumen) (1.2 liang); Xionghuang (Realgar), Zhusha (Cinnabaris) (each 1.2 qian); Hupo (Amber) (1 qian, ground extremely fine separately with Dengxincao).
Grind herbs finely. Melt 1 liang of Huangla (Beeswax) and 2 qian of Fengmi (Honey) in a copper spoon over fire. Remove from fire briefly. When wax edges slightly solidify, add herb powder, mix uniformly into a block. To use, gently warm the pill, roll quickly into small bean-sized spheres, coat with Zhusha, store in porcelain jars. Take 20-30 pills after meals with plain water. Severe cases: twice daily morning and evening. Most effective. (Alternative formula: 2 liang Huangla, 1 liang Mingfan, pill size of Sesame seeds, 50-70 pills before meals with wine. Unruptured sores resolve; ruptured ones heal. Effective for widespread snake-head-like sores. As the Heart is the Monarch and rarely affected, toxins attacking the Heart from sores or bites cause sudden death. This drug prevents internal toxin attack, detoxifies, and relieves pain.)
Mishou La Fan Wan (Secret from Yang of Huaian): Relieves pain, generates flesh, resolves pus/membranes, detoxifies, and removes filth.
Huangla (Beeswax), Baifan (Alumen) (each piece the size of a walnut, ground); Yinzhu (Vermilion); Shetui (Bombyx Batryticatus, dried on Yin-Yang tiles, ground).
Melt wax, add little honey, then add ground Baifan, Shetui, and Yinzhu, mixing well. Place copper spoon in boiling water, quickly roll pills to sesame seed size. For patients: bath first, drink several cups of hot wine, take 21 pills initially until drunk, cover to sweat. Early stage: resolves immediately. Formed stage with unbearable pain: reduces pain by half. Ruptured stage: produces thick yellow pus. Dosage based on deficiency/excess: Day 1: 21 pills; Day 2: 19 pills; decrease by 2 pills daily until 1 pill. Miraculous efficacy.
Tounong San: For various carbuncles, sores, and subcutaneous abscesses not broken. No knife or needle needed. Administration leads to spontaneous drainage shortly. Highly verified.
Em Kou Jian Zi (Silkworm cocoon fragment) (one piece, charred to retain property, ground).
Mix with wine and take. Use only one piece; do not overdose. Using 2-3 pieces may cause multiple openings. Exercise caution.
Tounong Fa (Drainage Method): Melt Huangla (Beeswax), shape while hot like a barley grain with pointed ends. Swallow one piece with wine or plain water. The lesion head will spontaneously break.
Zhiyan Jinzhen San (from *Qixuan*): Treats carbuncles, sores, and swellings, whether broken or unbroken, reaching the ulcer site directly. In spring, collect any amount of Zaogaozhen (Gleditsiae Spina). Char in gray fire until semi-black, grind to powder. Take 2-3 qian mixed with good wine, before or after meals depending on lesion location. Induce sweating. Use spines from tree tops for head lesions; sun-exposed trunk parts for back sores; buds for groin/perineal sores. This follows the principle of correspondence and guidance.
Huxin Dan (from *Zhengzong*): Especially suitable for Jing Ju (well carbuncle), also applicable to other conditions.
Lv Dou Fen (Mung Bean Powder) (2 liang); Xiangru (Frankincense, de-oiled) (1 liang); Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, roasted) (5 qian); Chensha (Cinnabaris, water-triturated) (2 qian).
Grind fine, mix with plain water, take 3 qian. (Jiang Shiji added Yuanzhi Rou and Licorice soaked in water, roasted and powdered to 1.5 liang; also named Huxin Dan.)
Huxin Dan (by Li Sili): For carbuncles and sores, take ten doses consecutively within three days to prevent syndrome transformation and vent toxins. Delay allows internal attack, leading to vomiting or nasal fungal growth, risking death if food intake ceases. Also suitable after five days.
Zhen Lv Dou Fen (True Mung Bean Powder) (1 liang); Xiangru (Frankincense, de-oiled, ground with Dengxincai Ash) (5 qian).
Take 1 qian mixed with strong decoction of raw Licorice, sip frequently. Highly recommended if toxin attacks the Heart causing vomiting. (Commentary by Gu Shicheng: Mung bean reduces swelling and detoxifies; Frankincense eliminates all carbuncle/toxin swellings. Taking it once or twice fills the wound with healthy tissue; truly a holy medicine.)
