Zhu Ti Tang (Pig Trotter Decoction, from *Waike Zhengzong*): Used for washing when carbuncles and ulcers have ulcerated and are discharging pus. This decoction eliminates toxic pathogens, removes necrotic tissue, revitalizes dead muscle, moistens the wound margin, disperses wind, reduces swelling, and should be discontinued once all foul matter has been expelled.
Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chi Shao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Lu Feng Fang (Vespa Nidus) [each in equal parts], one anterior pig trotter.
Grind the herbs into a coarse powder. Determine the quantity of herbs based on the size of the carbuncle or ulcer. First, boil the pig trotter in six bowls of clear water until soft. Filter the broth to clarify it, skim off the floating oil, add one tael of the herb mixture to the broth, and simmer over low heat for about ten boils. Strain through fine silk gauze to remove dregs. When the decoction is lukewarm, dip soft silk gauze into the liquid and pour/wash over the wound. Gently wipe away stasis, pus, and necrotic flesh; foul matter will discharge with the fluid. After washing, dry with silk cloth, and apply medications sequentially according to standard procedures.
Fang Feng Tang (Saposhnikoviae Decoction, from *Yangyi Shifa*):
Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Chi Shao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Dang Gui Wei (Cauda Angelicae Sinensis Radix) [each 2 qian], scallions with roots intact (5 stalks, tails removed).
First, blanch the anterior trotter of a male pig for about ten boils, skim off floating oil, and filter out three large bowls of broth. Add the herbs and simmer until cooked. Dip silk pieces into the decoction to wash the lesion. For deep or curved areas, use a new wool brush for cleaning. Wipe dry with soft silk, then apply mineral drugs (danyao).
Xi Fang (Washing Formula, from *Yangyi Shifa*):
Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Du Huo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [each 2 qian], scallion heads (5).
Boil in three bowls of water until the herbs are well-cooked/soft. Strain the clear liquid. Use silk cloth to dab and clean the wound surface, then rub and apply Red Paste and Black Paste. It is crucial to avoid wind and cold during washing. For mild and superficial back sores that are easy to treat, this formula can replace Zhu Ti Tang and is equally effective.
Another Washing Formula: Boil old winter melon rind for washing.
Xi Yao Shen Xiao San (Divine Nitre Powder for Washing, from *Jiyan Fang*): Specifically treats ulcerated carbuncles and ulcers with foul odor.
She Chuang Zi (Cnidii Fructus) (2 liang, crushed), Po Xiao (Natrii Sulfas) (1 liang).
Mix evenly. Take 3 qian per dose, add one bowl of water, boil for three to five times. Wash the area when the temperature is suitable.
