According to the *Bencao* (Compendium of Materia Medica): For injuries caused by snails, where toxic vapors spread throughout the body, it is advisable to crush Polygonum seeds (Liaozi) to extract juice and soak the affected area, which will lead to recovery.
Injuries from earthworms manifest like leprosy (Da Ma Feng), with loss of eyebrows and hair. There are also cases of being harmed by earthworm "breath" (spitting toxic fluid), causing bodily swelling.
It is also stated that if one ingests earthworms or jiao creatures and becomes poisoned, the only anomaly is hearing earthworms chirping within the body at night. Frequently washing with salt water broth will naturally eliminate the toxin.
For children injured, wash with warm salt water broth.
Another prescription: Apply duck blood to the site.
For poisoning by earthworms, presenting symptoms similar to leprosy with loss of eyebrows and hair, soak calcined stone (Duanshi) in hot water, wait for it to cool, then wash the affected area, soaking for a prolonged period until healed.
Yang HT insects, also known as Yang spicy insects, along with Wa [insects], can irritate humans, immediately causing skin swelling and pain resembling a burn. Treatment involves applying crushed light soybean paste (Dan Douchi).
It is further said that Wa [insects], also called She Gong, are hairy insects found among trees. Upon contact, they can shoot hairs at people, initially causing itching followed by pain, with heat resembling a burn. Prolonged exposure leads to external itching and internal pain, rotting flesh and bones, rendering all medicines ineffective. Only by applying crushed soybean paste mixed with clear oil can the hairs be expelled shortly thereafter.
Verified prescription: Crush light soybean paste (Dan Douchi) and apply; this expels the irritating hairs without pain. If hairs remain, rub again; self-healing occurs once hairs are out. If soybean paste is unavailable, wash with vinegar or brine.
Another prescription: Wash with decoction of Angelica dahurica (Baizhi). If flesh has rotted, sprinkle fine powder of cuttlebone (Haipiaoxiao).
Silkworm bites: Apply juice extracted from crushed Ramie root (Zhuma Gen).
Han Qiuyan stated: In Yanshan during spring and summer, there are many poisonous creatures like horse ticks (Maqi) that bite humans, causing unceasing bleeding. Applying burned bamboo leaves stops the blood immediately. (*Tanwan Congshu*)
Han Qiuyan stated: Eight-legged insects hide in walls and spray urine on people, causing sores all over the body resembling scalds, with pain like branding iron burns.
It is also said that the earwig (Quxi), also known as the multi-legged insect, if its urine splashes on a person, causes blisters and vesicles on the skin, with burning pain. Initially resembling rice grains, they gradually enlarge to bean size. It is appropriate to use salt water broth soaked in cotton to dab the blisters several times, causing them to subside quickly.
Verified prescription: Burn black chicken feathers to ash, mix with egg white, and apply.
