Some people love eating pufferfish, leading to blood toxicity affecting the body, causing tongue numbness and chest oppression. In severe cases, there is abdominal distension with difficulty in qi expansion, mouth open but unable to speak, which becomes harmful if prolonged. The pufferfish is an aquatic creature. Some die after eating it, while others are fine; why? It depends on whether the person's gastrointestinal tract is suitable or unsuitable. Generally, those with dry blood in the Liver channel and weak Stomach qi are prone to poisoning, as the pufferfish is known for its "anger" (hot/aggressive nature). Eating it agitates qi. For individuals with inherently dry liver blood and urgent liver qi, adding urgency to urgency inevitably increases aggressive qi. Since urgent qi is difficult to soothe, chest oppression occurs. Since urgent qi hinders voice production, tongue numbness occurs. Treatment should involve inducing vomiting to expel the meat, thereby soothing the qi, relaxing the abdomen, and restoring speech, eliminating the harm of tongue numbness and chest oppression. The ancient saying "risk death to eat pufferfish" exists; actually, pufferfish cannot kill, but its nature is too aggressive and unsuitable for many. It is appropriate to treat with modified Genti San (Melon Peduncle Powder).
It is also said: Pufferfish blood causes numbness, roe causes distension, and eyes cause visual blurring. Those who consume it must thoroughly wash away the blood and remove the roe and eyes to avoid harm.
It is also said: The first priority for pufferfish is to wash away blood water thoroughly; the second is to prevent dust from falling into the pot. Therefore, vendors selling stir-fried pufferfish often operate in open-air spaces to avoid dust contamination.
It is also said: Processing with reed shoots (Asparagus Fern Shoots) can detoxify it.
