Rat Cluster Sore (Shu Zan Chuang)
Wang Shengzhi stated: Rat Cluster Sore, also known as Wandering Blood Spleen Carbuncle (You Zou Xue Pi Yong), arises between the hypochondrium and the back. This condition results from congenital toxin acquired in infancy, or from insufficient breastfeeding coupled with excessive consumption of wheat-based foods, fruits, and other heat-producing substances. Due to the delicate and fragile nature of the internal organs, these substances cannot be properly transformed and transported. Over time, this leads to alternating chills and fever, bone-steaming interior heat (Gu Zheng Nei Re), and restlessness day and night. Consequently, the toxin manifests on the exterior of the skin and fascia, resembling Liu Zhu (Flowing Abscess), taking the shape of a rat with varying sizes. If pus forms within seven to eight days, it is treatable; if no pus forms, healing and contraction are difficult. (From *Li Li*)
Wang Kentang stated: Mouse Cluster, also called Wandering Blood Spleen Carbuncle, presents as carbuncles arising in two or three locations between the back and the hypochondrium. It is caused by the accumulation of anger transforming into heat. It frequently occurs in the regions of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian and the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian. If after seven days there is no pus, and the lesion turns black and sunken while the patient becomes restless and chaotic, death ensues. (From *Zhun Sheng*)
*Fa Yi Xin Fa* states: Chuan Ju (Stringed Carbuncle) arises between the back and the hypochondrium. Initially, it appears in one location, then successively emerges in two or three others. Although the shapes differ, the color remains the same. After ulceration, they often communicate with each other, hence the names Mouse Cluster and Wandering Blood Spleen Carbuncle.
Abyss Carbuncle (Yuan Ju)
Chen Shigong stated: Abyss Carbuncle arises below the hypochondrium. In the early stage, it is not red but hard. After a long period, it ruptures, producing a sound like an infant crying. When covered with a plaster, the sound ceases; when removed, the sound persists again. This is strange and difficult to treat; truly, it is incurable. (From *Zheng Zong*)
*Fa Yi Xin Fa*: Abyss Carbuncle arises three cun below the hypochondrium, resulting from excessive worry and indignation damaging both the Liver and Gallbladder. Initially, it is hard, swollen, but not red. It only ulcerates after a long time. The emergence of thick white pus indicates a favorable course (Shun). Pus resembling soy milk indicates a dangerous course (Xian). If the sore mouth emits a sound similar to an infant crying, this belongs to the perforation of the inner membrane. One may moxa at Yanglingquan Acupoint (located in the depression one cun below the lateral edge of the patella, taken in a squatting position) for fourteen moxa cones (Zhuang); the sound will then stop. Before or during the impending ulceration, it is advisable to take the point in a sitting position for ease of access. Frequent administration of Hu Mo San (Membrane-Protecting Powder) can prevent membrane perforation.
