Ma Luzhan stated: Whenever there is coldness in the nose along with a sallow or pale complexion, it indicates a severe deficiency of Yang Qi (Vital Energy). It is appropriate to treat this with a large dosage of Ginseng combined with Aconite Root.

Tian Shi (Heavenly Master) Qi stated: If a person has a red line growing inside the nose, approximately one chi long, and slight movement causes excruciating pain that feels like death, people consider this a disease caused by drinking alcohol. However, I believe otherwise; this is also caused by malevolent spirits. The prescription uses Borax and Borneol, each one fen, ground into powder, mixed evenly with human milk, and gently applied to the middle of the red line. Suddenly, one may feel as if someone punched the patient, and within an instant, the red line disappears. This is an extraordinarily effective treatment. Medical texts record: For those who enjoy consuming pig blood, sheep blood, or deer blood, leading to accumulated heat and stagnation in the Blood aspect, resulting in nasal hairs resembling ropes (abnormal growth/congestion), unbearable pain, blocked qi preventing respiration, use Frankincense and Myrrh in equal parts, formed into pills the size of paulownia seeds using rice paste. Take fifteen pills morning and evening with cold water, and they will naturally fall off and heal.

Feng Luzhan stated: Fire pathogen stagnating in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner) may cause severe pain, or pus flowing externally, or pus blockage causing distending pain. Cases arising from indulging in anger or alcohol, where damp-heat attacks mutually, leading to ear swelling and pain, should be treated by soothing the Liver, clearing heat, and dispersing wind. Cheng stated: The syndrome of Ear Carbuncle, "carbuncle" means obstruction/stagnation, which differs from the initial stage of Otorrhea (pus discharge from the ear). It is either due to drinking pure wine or eating roasted/fried foods, or due to suppressed anger, compounded by excessive sexual activity depleting True Yin, causing Ministerial Fire to hyperactive, or Liver/Gallbladder Fire rebelling upward. Thus, the ear orifice becomes obstructed and swollen, and the root of the ear becomes hot, painful, and distended. At the initial stage, Zizhi Qinggan Tang (Gardenia Decoction to Clear the Liver) or Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) are suitable. If internal pus has formed, Simiao Tang (Four Marvels Decoction) with Scutellaria Root removed, and Angelica Dahurica Root and Moutan Bark added, should be used. If already ulcerated with pus discharge, Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) with Chuanxiong removed and Honeysuckle Flower added should be used; after pus is exhausted, switching to Dihuang Tang (Rehmannia Decoction) with Ophiopogon and Achyranthes added will lead to self-healing. For external treatment, if internal pus exists, use a small amount of Hongsheng Dan (Red Ascension Cinnabar) to gently drain it. Do not apply plasters over the Ermen (Ear Gate) acupoint area to avoid blocking the orifice. For redness and swelling around the ear, apply Huanglian Fuyao (Coptis Poultice Medicine) to resolve it spontaneously.
