Take one bi (approx. one teaspoon) of Xiaoshen Wan (Little Divine Pill). Immediately apply moxibustion or burning therapy. If the necrotic tissue in the Bi syndrome (obstruction syndrome characterized by pain and numbness) area cannot be completely burned away, needle the flexor creases of the hands and feet or the visible cyanotic veins on the legs and knees to release black blood. For excess patterns, needle once every five to six days; for deficiency patterns, needle once every half month or one month. If purple-black blood is released, needling may be repeated; if fresh red blood appears, stop needling. Only one site should be needled at a time; do not needle multiple sites consecutively.
Rub Qiai (Artemisia argyi from Qi County) into strips, with thick ones as thin as a pen tube and thin ones as thin as chopsticks. Apply moxibustion to the affected areas according to the Bi syndrome. Moxa-burn each site five to six zhuang (units of moxibustion, where one zhuang equals one cone of moxa). The moxa cones should be longer than half a cun (approx. 1.6 cm).
Cut paper into strips, with thick ones as thick as chopsticks. Soak them thoroughly in clear oil, take them out, and place them on fir wood to drain and dry. When igniting, if they do not crackle, first test the necrotic tissues at various sites with an hairpin. If there is no pain, mark these spots with ink. Then ignite the oil-soaked paper strips and burn along the ink marks until blisters form, which is ideal. Once the blisters rupture, apply a plaster.
(The prescription is listed earlier.)
Prepare one wooden basin. Place a horizontal board across the top, extending two to three cun beyond the rim on both ends. First, crush ginger and scallions, and rub them all over the patient's body evenly. Have the patient eat a full meal. Pour the medicinal liquid into the basin while it is still hot. Have the patient sit on the horizontal board, and place another board under their feet. Surround the outside with mats, and cover with a thick quilt externally to prevent the medicinal vapor from escaping, leaving only the head and face exposed. When the water cools slightly, slowly uncover and allow the patient to wash themselves. Subsequently, take 100 pills of Babao Dan (Eight Treasures Pill). On the next day, continue taking Xiaoshen Wan.
Mix Xin Duanshi (Newly smelted iron pyrites) with Dian Shui (Indigofera tinctoria juice), and apply the mixture to the red patches. When the medicine is nearly dry, press with a finger to check for pain. If painful, do not reapply, nor remove the old medicine. If not painful, scrape off the original medicine and apply new medicine; pain will then be felt. Do not pick at it; let new flesh grow naturally, and the upper crust will fall off spontaneously. If picked, blisters may form after healing. This prescription is effective not only for necrotic tissue, red clouds, red patches, and red mounds caused by Bi syndrome, but also for black nevi on the face and scrofulous lumps on the neck. It works infallibly without producing pus. Scabs fall off naturally after a few days, resulting in complete recovery.
