When blood deficiency causes the pox to appear, the color is often diffuse, the root area is pale white and lacks vibrancy. In such cases, Xionggui Baoyuan Decoction may be administered; for severe cases of Qi and Blood deficiency, Shen Gui Lurong Decoction yields miraculous results.
[Note] When the pox reaches the stage of filling with pus (Chengjiang), if Qi and Blood intersect normally, there must be a line of blood tightly attached beneath the root, resembling a pearl placed on cinnabar, with each grain shining brightly. This is the normal morphological presentation. If one suffers from chronic Qi and Blood weakness, during the pus-filling stage, although the apex may be round and full, the root will completely lack a red halo. The primary treatment should be Xionggui Baoyuan Decoction. For more severe deficiency, Shen Gui Lurong Decoction should be used as the primary treatment.
Xionggui Baoyuan Decoction (Cnidius and Angelica Decoction to Preserve the Original Qi)
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix)
Gan Cao (Licorice Root), roasted
Huang Qi (Astragalus Membranaceus Root), honey-roasted
Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Radix), wine-washed
Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome)
Guiding herb: Long Yan Rou (Longan Aril). Decoct in water and take orally.
[Prescription Song] Xionggui Baoyuan treats blood deficiency, Ginseng and Licorice combined with Astragalus, Wine-washed Angelica paired with Ligusticum, Guided by Longan aril, taken at any time.
Shen Gui Lurong Decoction (See "Treatment of Pus-Filling Syndrome" chapter for formula details).
The pox skin is thin and the roots are not red; when pus forms, the fluid is pale and clear. The lesions melt, break open, and remain incomplete. These are signs of Qi and Blood deficiency, indicating a perilous prognosis. Quickly administer Shiquan Dabu Agent (Tonsifying Decoction); only after Qi is abundant and Blood is sufficient can survival be ensured.
[Note] The formation of pox relies on Qi and Blood. When Qi and Blood are substantial, the pox skin becomes tough, plump, firm, and dense; if Qi and Blood are deficient and contracted, the pox will be shiny, soft, wrinkled, and soggy like wetness. One must use Shiquan Dabu Decoction to vigorously tonify Qi and Blood, so that toxins transform into pus and circulate, thereby ensuring safety.
